A sweep of Murray (25-17, 33-31, 25-17) and the lady aces VB team is 10-1 after conference play. Have they ever had a start this good going into conference play before? A better question might be when did they last have a winning conference record? I checked online all the way back to 2003 and they never really came close to a winning conference record. They occasionally would be 7-11 and maybe 8 wins (I can't remember for sure.) One year they were 1-17 in conference play. They certainly should be better this year but I hope at minimum we can salvage an above .500 conference record after starting out 11-1; that should be another 10 wins minimum. But not off to a good start but always tough to win on the road.

Another straight set loss on the road at Loyola tonight Box scoreTeam | 1 | 2 | 3 | Evansville | 20 | 19 | 15 | Loyola Chicago | 25 | 25 | 25 |
They play a 10-3 Valparaiso team on the road tomorrow at 6 pm on ESPN3. Schedule
It sure would be nice to win one of these three road games to open the conference season. But it's looking like they may start 0-3 in conference play. That is the bad news. However, I would not give up hope as it appears from the Massey Ratings that Evansville is opening conference play on the road at three of the top four MVC teams (Valpo, Loyola and Indiana State). So it looks like there is reason to still be optimistic about this season. But let's try to steal one on the road against a very good Valpo team (or at least win a set). Go Aces!!!

This sounds like a lot of Aces athletic teams, in fact most of them. Win a lot of non con games, but struggle when they get to the MVC. Does this suggest anything?

Maybe it suggests they were playing the three top schools in the conference, on the road, with a lot of youth. After the three game bump, Aces improve to 12-4 (2-3) with a pair of straight set victories over Bradley and ISUr at home. Next up will be MSU Tuesday at the Meeks.

School | Conf | Overall | Streak | Loyola | 6-0 | 13-5 | W6 | Valparaiso | 4-2 | 13-4 | L1 | Missouri State | 4-2 | 13-5 | W2 | Bradley | 4-2 | 8-9 | W1 | Drake | 3-3 | 8-6 | L1 | Illinois State | 3-3 | 7-11 | L1 | Evansville | 2-3 | 12-4 | W2 | UNI | 2-4 | 7-12 | W1 | Indiana State | 1-4 | 9-6 | L4 | Southern Illinois | 0-6 | 5-14 | L9 |
MVC Volleyball StandingsEvansville is (barely) the highest rated MVC team in the Massey Ratings . Currently Evansville is #72, Loyola #74, Valpo #77, Missouri State #89, Drake #135, Northern Iowa #142, Bradley #151, Illinois State #164, Indiana State #167, Southern Illinois #260. The next three games should be a good test to see where we are: - Tuesday (10/12) we play a very good Missouri State team at home;
- Friday (10/15) at UNI;
- Saturday (10/16) at Drake;
Missouri State is very good and UNI and Drake are quality teams that are road games. So these next three games should give us a very good idea of what to expect from this team on their ceiling.
Note: Based on conference play I am not sure I would put Indiana State in the top 3 of the conference as they are 1-4 in conference play with their only win against Evansville (at home for ISU). Loyola does appear to be the cream of the league at the moment and Valpo is right there as well. Evansville might be in that discussion based on their overall record and rating. However, they need to prove it in conference play - so time will tell.

Indiana State is weird. They lost to Loyola and Valpo on the road as well, but then lost to Bradley and Illinois State at home. So, top thre may not have been correct with the trees, but they were up there when they played us.

The upcoming game on Tuesday between Evansville and Missouri State seems to be a pivotal game as these teams seem to be pretty evenly matched based on records and ratings. The game is at 6 pm and is on ESPN+ and is also a home game for those that want to attend in person. This seems to be a key game that we most definitely would want to win at home if we have any aspirations of finishing in the top of the conference standings. A dominating three set victory for the Aces. I think this team is the real deal. It will most likely come down to taking care of business with the teams they are supposed to beat and then if they can sneak out a few victories against some of the top teams and especially if they can win some on the road. This team seems to have another gear when they really want to play. The big three of Vasquez, Cardona and Feliciano are very impressive.
The crowd was a little sparse but it looked like most of the men's basketball team was there.

Volleyball team beats UNI tonight 3-1. Improves to 4-3 in conference play. Thanks for the update ad1770. Here is the link to the article from the official UE website: UE volleyball makes history in win at UNITwo things stick out to me from a couple of quotes from this article: 1. UE's volleyball teams have been really bad in the past: "Entering Friday's contest, the Purple Aces (14-4, 4-3 MVC) were 0-26 in road matchups against UNI (7-13, 2-5 MVC) and 2-54 overall." 2. This team does seem for real and simply seems to have another gear when they are focused and decide to play and they seem to have fun and enjoy playing with one another. "We are happy with the win because we did not have our best game, but we still pulled off the win," UE head volleyball coach Fernando Morales said. "That is what great teams do! After the first set, I told our team that we are going to lose sets and that is okay. The important thing is to keep playing our game because that is the only way we can get out of a hole." On an additional note: Evansville big three (hitters) are really good and freshmen Giulia Cardona might be the best of the group with a very bright future at UE. "Giulia Cardona led all players with 19 kills while Melanie Feliciano and Alondra Vazquez recorded 16 and 10, respectively. Rachel Basinski reset her season mark with 15 digs while Vazquez recorded 11 on the way to her 10th double-double of the season and fourth in a row."

Upcoming five games:
If they can somehow find a way to beat Drake on the road today (as no road is a gimme), their next four games are at home including against all of the three teams that they lost to on the road (Loyola, Valpo and Indiana State) and most likely a fairly easy game against the MVC cellar dweller SIU (but you never know).
Note: Loyola lost their first conference game on the road at Illinois State last night - so they are beatable.

Just went final. Aces beat Drake in five sets after trailing in the fifth set 11-7. A very hard fought road victory in a tough environment tonight. Conference record sits at 5-3 after this evening.
