I am liking this hire more and more every day. Pretty snazzy house, fwiw. I couldn't fit 12 women into my place, though once upon a time, I'd have tried it.

Makes me almost want to cry to think we had to endure the last five years to get to this point. That five years is certainly a black mark on Spencer's resume.

I am not a Spencer defender, but if you are going to give him a black mark for the last 5 years, then he should get credit for the hire. Ruffing probably got a few extra seasons by being in the right place at the right time. 2017-18 Attention is towards canning Marty and rebuilding the men's program 2018-19 Attention still on rebuilding men's, plus had to buy Marty out. Money tight for adequate replacement for Ruffing. 2019-20 In all likelihood, would have probably been canned had it not been for the McCarty fiasco. 2020-21 Finally able to mercifully end the Ruffing disaster, and from all indications, APPEARS to have made a fantastic hire. There's a lot of areas I could critique Spencer, but I am not sure this is one of them.

I’m not happy with our AD. That is not based on personality, but on results and his “ledger” of pluses and minuses. Frankly, the RSW hire is about the ONLY true success he has shown in major sports over the past 5 years. He has retained our baseball coach…duh. He completely botched the basketball fire/vet/hire/fire/hire process. He held onto a bad women’s bball coach WAY too long. Soccer has underperformed. Everything else seems to be “wait and see”….”let’s see what happens”……”it takes time.” It is time to move on.
I realize that being an AD is more than just wins, but if wins are not a large part of the grading scale, why not simply be D3? The reason, IMHO is that we SHOULD field winning programs. There is NO reason why we cannot. NONE, and for our AD to conduct business-as-usual is doing a disservice to the university and the city. We can simply do much, much better.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that Walter McCarty situation combined with the pandemic bought Matt 2 extra seasons. Fiscally, it was the right move, success-wise, obviously not. Its the same reason why Todd is our mens coach. We don't have the money to throw at this right now, but I'm sure he only has a season or two left in him. No university is doing well financially because of the pandemic, and our university has financial struggles that are well publicized for multiple reasons, so in that sense, I feel Spencer's hands are tied. His next bb hire will truly determine if he needs to go imo

One good hire does not make up for 5 long agonizing years. I do realize that there were circumstances that probably made it impossible for him to can Ruffing, but upgrading one of the Assistant coaches would have been better than nothing.

I think I will pull back a little on criticizing the baseball. The process for baseball is different. So much of that is where you are on the map. The big university programs are going to dominate because they have the climate and the financial horsepower. The secret to baseball is pitching depth and not very many programs have that. That is not an endorsement of the AD; it just lends a little love to the baseball program.

I have been to a few painful Lady Aces games in the Ruffing era. I couldn't convince myself to see more than a few. That will change this year. I am really looking forward to seeing this rebuild and the new energy level. I can't help but believe that a Lady Aces team that competes will create a culture of winning that carries over throughout Aces athletics. Winning can be contagious. The Men's team will have to push themselves to generate the kind of enthusiasm I'm seeing from the Ladies.

We will have to wait and see how the season unfolds, but what an amazing job of recruiting this coaching staff has done. I’m glad they didn’t limit themselves to 150 miles of Evansville.

Great info in this media day interview
Coach most definitely said good things during this interview. I definitely felt optimistic listening to her talk about her vision for UEWBB. I'm excited to hear her recruiting goals for the region and that she thinks we are in a great location for wbb talent..which I agree with. Nice little details about a few players. Seems pretty high on the aussie girls which is awesome to hear.

She is one positive impressive coach. I will be surprised if she is here more than 5 years. Some people just have it, and some don't.
