Not sure if Evansville has any interest but this kid (6’7”) was recruited by a lot of big time schools and was rated either a 3 or 4 star player. Loyola recruited him as well. Entered the portal yesterday and has already had a visit with UTSA this morning (from Denton, Texas). www.google.com/amp/s/amp.indystar.com/amp/7740344002n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2020/jakobe-coles-213151He played in only six games because of a meniscus tear. “… Coles was part of a five-player recruiting class that was the highest-rated in Butler history. He was ranked 178th by 247 Sports in the 2020 class. Coles was impressive in the six games he did play. He had the highest offensive rating of any Butler player, according to kenpom.com. He averaged 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 18 minutes per game. He shot 80% on two-point attempts (12-of-15) and was 2-of-7 on 3s...”

I have to wonder how the NCAA figures these programs are going to handle this influx of players, and the ones who decided to stick around another year, like Frederking and Kuhlman. Here is the part where it gets tricky. Let's say Kuhlman goes to summer school, gets a bit more education and, knowing he already has a career in mind, decides on Sept. 20 that he's done with classwork. He's graduated twice. His wife is maybe preggers, or his father needs him to run the store. Whatever. But UE passed on a kid who was interested because there wasn't a noticeable roster spot. Of course, the kid goes elsewhere and on Sept. 21, UE finds it had a roster spot all along. They trusted that a 5th year senior would not make a career decision that was clearly more useful to his future than running wind sprints to keep his roster spot.
Kids who got hurt, like Coles, look up and the place they had on the team is being taken by somebody else. So they transfer, or consider it. They have no idea if the school they are entering hasn't done the same thing.
I am all in favor of these guys seeking better arrangements as part of a path to their future, but they are being played like a cheap violin.

Coles is originally from KY but his family moved to Texas when he was younger. Probably will be transferring back to the Texas area.
