Another disappointing end to a disappointing season losing 10-9 in extra innings after being up 3-0 after top of first. Is it time to look for a change at the helm with our baseball program? The teams under the current regime have had little or no pitching since Kyle Freeland was here which now seems like a long time ago
I know Wes has a number of local players coming in next year but it has been "there is always next year" being the slogan for a number of years of late.

Is it time to look for a change at the helm with our baseball program? My gut says no, but I don’t follow the baseball team super close. So I would be particularly interested in opinions of those that follow the team closely. I think the team has been fairly competitive in recent years but I could be wrong. My basic thought at this point is any team that’s 500 or better that the coach would probably be safe especially with as long as it took to make a change at the top with the women’s basketball team. Obviously we want to be better than .500 but you probably don’t want to make the change unless you think you have a replacement that is better. So to me the better question would be IF we made a change, who would be a better replacement that we have decent shot at? Update: I stand corrected on being competitive in recent years after looking at their W-L record the last few years; but this year was better record wise. Their recent W-L records are: 2021: 28-27, 11-16 2020: 5-11 2019: 24-29, 11-12 2018: 12-39, 3-19 2017: 18-39, 8-12 2016: 29-27, 9-12 His coaching record at UE since 2009 can be found here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wes_Carroll_(baseball)#Head_coaching_record

I think if you look at baseball through its unique lens, the .501 WL record is completely acceptable. The recruiting is different. If the Aces had one more quality starter, they'd be leading the Valley. How do you find those guys? Mostly, you don't. They find you. Pitchers come into a program and become the pitcher they are. You throw your ace on Friday, hope for a split on Saturday and bring your second hammer on Sunday. That's the theory.
If your pitching collapses, and that happens to a lot of programs, you get a losing streak.
I have had conversations with a lot of people who are involved in college baseball and it's a unique system. Some of the best baseball in the US is played at colleges you never think about or maybe never even heard of -- Dallas Baptist is one.
Wisconsin-Madison doesn't even have baseball.
UE's program is on good footing. Great facility.
Even the schedule for baseball is peculiar. Most years, most teams play their first 10 games in the deep South owing to weather. There was zero baseball in 2020 after March. Not much chance of recruiting.

DBU is a man in the kids corner in the Valley. There isn't much way to stop them, as it appears. I looked at their media guide and they generate a lot of talent. That isn't something that slides off the table. They joined the Valley in 2014 and have dominated it every year.

ISU is in with Vandy, which has about 224 guys in the major leagues.

Opposite brackets, w/ the Sycs facing a BEATABLE GA Tech and Vandy facing national powerhouse ( ), Presbyterian, in a denominational battle for the "Soul of the South." ISU is no stranger to Vandy, having def. them once in the 2019 regular season and faced in the same NCAA Regional prior to their winning the National Championship. Sycamores will need to bring a few Terre Haute Sycamore "whistlers" to offset the home field advantage.
Btw, while browsing, I also noted this article re: the possible TB Rays move to Nashville. Sounds pretty serious...

The Blue Hose appear to compare favorably to Evansville.

I suppose we should be rooting for DBU in the tournament. I mean, why not?
