If I come into town for 3-4 games (hope springs that we return to some form of normal), I want to see an active, hard-nosed, athletic Aces team. I understand that Coach Lick had to control possession time THIS PAST YEAR, but this is not entertaining basketball, nor do most recruits want to play this style. It also harkens back to Marty’s time at UE, perhaps with fewer screens.
I can understand why Coach might want to retain Noah and Evan, for their understanding of what Coach wants, how he practices, etc. From a scholarship point, they cost us nothing, but if they ARE back, it needs to be in a supporting role (<20 mins. Per game). Otherwise, we have recruited guys who cannot contribute quickly, and that’s what we need to improve our performance in the MVC and overall.
It’s early marking, but Schertz at ISUb runs a tempo more like what I’d personally like to see from UE. That doesn’t mean that we need to recruit a top-flight D2 coach, but there are multiple D1 assistants who could bring a lot of enthusiasm to our program as HC. M. Lewis, et. al.
A really good AD has a note card in his coat pocket with their names on it.

McCarty came in like a house of fire running a tempo that averaged a respectable 74.8 points per game in the non conference. But once conference play started, that “uptempo” offense averaged a mere 66.8 points per game. A full 8 point drop per game. I know, I know. TL runs a much slower offense. Well, that much slower offense averaged 65.9 points per game. Only one point less then the McCarty uptempo style we were getting. A coach can talk about running it until they are blue in the face. The defense in this league plays a little bit of a role in that not happening. Illinois State wants to slow the game down playing their famous zone. UNI and Loyola wanted to slow it down by playing football and being physical. Bradley slows you down with their length. SIU is trying to get back to Floorburn U. That is merely five teams I have mentioned. The best bets to run are against the other four, but when you have more than half of your games against teams that want to slow you down, pushing the tempo is not as easy as saying that is what we are doing.

It's a moot point. Lickliter wants to slow down enough to accumulate shot clock violations. No MVC team will out-slow a Lickliter team.

Here comes this guy to defend his position in the face of imperial evidence. TL is BAD!!!! No one should have him as a coach. BLAH. BLAH. BLAH. You know what? Wasn’t talking talking to you. I was talking to ncace because he actually believes in conversation. Maybe you should just stay out of this section entirely since you don’t like TL, don’t like his recruits (because they might have skinny arms), and generally seem to have an overall VI vibe to you. Offended? Don’t really care. (Help moderators!! They are being mean to me again!!!) PurpleWhiskers, 2021 Now, back to the subject at hand. Ncace, I would be more than happy to speak with you on this subject. And almost anyone else on this board.

I agree, the shot clock violations were extremely frustrating to say the least. Throw a shot up and hope for an offensive rebound at least dadgumit. But despite that, this offense was the best on a per-possession basis we've had in MVC play since 2012. Wait, Frederking and Kuhlman were more efficient on offense than Iggy and DJ in 2016? I know what you're thinking, I also had to pinch myself a couple times to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Maybe the offense wasn't fun to watch this year, but darn if it wasn't efficient for an MVC team. I'll take results over flash any day of the week.

This thread as usual has gotten off the main point of Jayden Brewer. I am so tired of all the negativism towards Lickliter. Please quit trying to second guess his plans as far as using his players.

How is second guessing a coach’s plans, positive or negative, regarding recruits a taboo subject? Are you ever guilty of it?

Pro tip: when you are only talking to one particular person it is best to use the private message feature. This fan board is literally hosted on a platform called “free forums.” A forum is a place where people exchange ideas and not where it is mandatory to agree (with you) on ideas. Offended? Don’t really care.

But that is simply too much for you to understand. (There are pages of your interactions from the coach, to the players, to all things CV-19 where you prove my point on this.) Of course, you can’t just leave it be, so now I will end it by saying IDGAS what you as the VI has to say about anything else as I am done with it all.

Good riddance to you. Ok. You roped me in. Show me one post where I have tried to get you “cancelled” from this board, or anything else as such. I believe you have the right to say any dumbass thing you want on this board, and I have the right to disagree with it. Problem is, you do not see it as the same way, so in your eyes, you have the right to say whatever dumbass thing you want, and no one has the right to disagree with you. That is a problem. So please, keep saying dumbass things, and keep proving to everyone on this board that you are the VI everyone already knows you are. Good day sir, since I know you can’t stop.

I’ve decided to let you and the “everyone” you’ve interviewed disagree with me. This has always been my position but I needed to make it public. Let everyone know when you meet again. I think Jaeden Brewer would be a fine addition to the program if he can fit into a very deliberate system. Feel free to disagree.
