No stats, but Matt Ruffing, starting his 5th season as head coach, managed to keep within 25 of Murray State, 84-61.

The Ladies appear to be capable of going 0-36 in the Valley. Played, or should I say showed up, for a game with Murray State at Murray. They seem to have liked the way they played last year so well that they are going to do it again this year. Only positive thing I can say is that they held Murray to less than 90 points. No consistent scorer. No discernible defense, unless you want to call a zone that leaves everyone open for an unguarded 3, a defense. Sloppy passing, and missed shots that a high school player could make. We know that the UE powers that be care nothing about the Ladies program as the head coach should have be let go two years ago. I see them pulling out a close victory over Oakland City, but the the rest of the season is going to be grim.
Oh, and the final score was 84-61.

I know very little about Ruffing. He may be the greatest guy on the planet, but at some point, you have to be accountable to your performance record. How is he still employed?
His best season was his first full season where he went 14-17 with Epps players. Since then, his record is as follows:
2017-18 3-27 2018-19 4-26 2019-20 3-26 2020-21 0-1
That's 10-80 after his first season. Is there any coach in America still employed with results as poor as this?

With that record is there any coach in America who wouldn't leave without being told to and wear a disguise on the way out the door?

I believe Murray won by 2 last year. So is Murray that much better this year,or are the Ladies worse than last year.

I wouldn't say that the Aces are worse than last year, but as I can remember, Murray is much better. I think that the Aces will be better than they showed last night, but they are so out manned, and short of real talent, it's not going to be much different than last year. They had one bright spot that I saw last night, and that was freshman Rylie Stephens, a 5'11" guard from Fairland, In, wherever that is. She had 14 points, and looked like she could hit a 15 foot jump shot with some consistency. I don't mean to demean any of the players, as I believe that they were trying to the best of their ability, but the whole approach to how the game should be played was horrendous, and that falls directly upon the head coach.

Matt Ruffing and the Lady Aces last won a basketball game on December 18, 2019, almost a year ago, when they beat Chicago State 76-42. The last time an Aces basketball team (men or women) won a game was on December 21, 2019, when the men (and Coach Walter McCarty - no h), beat Murray State. I haven't looked it up to see if it's happened before, but would think we're almost in AFLAC trivia question territory for which Division I school has had 0 wins for their men's and women's basketball teams in a calendar year. Hopefully the men and women take care of business and start winning some games soon. Their best opportunity is now during the non-conference portion of the season.

Fairland is basically where Indiana Grand racing Casino is located.

We all know who the new coach will be for the Lady Aces before long. It's just a matter of time.

We all know who the new coach will be for the Lady Aces before long. It's just a matter of time. I hope so. Matt is a nice guy but nobody should keep their job with that kind of record. I found this link on the active records of D1 coaches on the men’s side and their are a handful of active coaches with 1-4 years on the job with a winning percentage as low as 20% for 2+ years like the current SIUE coach at 20.7%; the Pacific coach is 4-22 with one year under his belt or a 15% winning percentage. I think Matt is actually worse with a longer tenure. Check out page 9 and 10 for the records and winning percentages of the D1 men’s coaches: fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/m_basketball_RB/2018/Coaching.pdf
