With the non-con over, the Lady Aces are 3-8. Only 2 of those wins came against D-1, and calling Chicago State D-1 is probably a stretch. They did beat Marshall, so there's that.
The talent is improving. The leading scorer in total points is Freshman Abby Feit from Normal, IL. Since becoming eligible for the Dec 13th game against whatever Ft. Wayne is going by now, Junior transfer Lola Bracy is leading the team in average per game at 16.8. Bracy is a tranfer from Lamar, and played high school in the St. Louis area.

The Ladies are better than they have been in the past. At least they are not getting blown out, and allowing 100 points. Their defense, and rebounding is way below most most of the Valley teams I have seen though. I believe they will be quite a bit closer to last, than first this year. There needs to be a change at the top of the program.

I have to concede to having no real interest in the women's program beyond its overall impact on the university. I am fully amazed that with a good 100 decent sized high schools within an hour's drive of Evansville that they can't find 10 or so girls/women who can play better than 3 wins a year. None of them have to be top 100 players across the land. This isn't like they are auditioning for the pro leagues.
Cities not including Evansville -- Terre Haute, Henderson, Owensboro, Jeff-NA on up even to Indy and across to St. Louis ... there have to be some girls/women who can play competitively at a first-class university with outstanding undergrad curricula.

Ladies were beaten tonight by Bradley 82-51. Abby Feit had 18 points, but no one else had more than 9. Out scored 50-20 in the 2nd, and 3rd quarters. And the beat goes on.

I watched the first half and it was already going south. I turned it off because I felt bad watching it. They're young and hopefully will grow as a team if they can keep this team together.

Aces score 6 points in the second quarter, and are losing 36-16 to Illinois State. They have shot at least 5 or 6 three point shots that have been air balls.

I will see half of their home games again this year.

Despite having three players in double figures, the Lady Aces fell to Valpo 88-66 at Meeks today. Makayla Wallace and Lola Bracy each had 18 points, and freshman star Abby Feit had a double/double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. With the loss, the ladies are at 3-12.

At the end of the first quarter at Drake, the lady Aces have fought, and clawed, their way to a 34-3 deficit. Abby with a field goal, and a free throw in the first 10 minutes. Why do I watch this? I don't know. Maybe it's like a train wreck. You just can't look away. I have said all I am going to say about this program.

Final Drake 108 Aces 44
That's a 64 point loss. The program is a complete embarrassment.

Maybe this topic belongs on the main forum, but who is to blame here? Maybe I am wrong, but on the surface it seems like we have some nice players. Feit, Wallace and Bracy come to mind.
Obviously Ruffing is in over his head here. Like Seltzer, he was thrown into the position in the middle of a season. Hopefully unlike Seltzer, he was retained for the entire next season with the moniker of "Interim Coach" still thrown around his neck. I imagine it was hard to recruit that year. With that said, it has been a few seasons since, so there really shouldn't be any excuse for him.
Is it due to the lack of success on the men's side? Could be, we had pretty competitive women's teams under Kathi Bennett during the Crews years... but, we just got smoked by a women's team, whose men's team has been to (1) NCAA tournament in the last 50 years. Not to mention they are also a small, private college.
I was fine with letting things slide with the ladies until the men's program was back in force. Of course now, it appears we may be starting back from scratch there. I don't think with the pathetic results Ruffing is delivering, we can wait another 2-3 years before making a change.

I don't know how they can justify keeping Ruffing. I think the players can be developed but not by Ruffing. To many loose ends on the floor.

I know I said I wasn't going to say anything more, but the only justification I can see, is that they don't give a damn about the Women's program, and they don't want to spend the money to get a decent coach. That in itself could be a violation of the spirit of Title IX.
