Why isn't the coach who supposedly showed up not identified?
At this point, it looks like an attorney doing nothing more than throwing a bunch of crap against the wall, and seeing what sticks in terms of liability payments. Surprised they haven't named every resident of the city of Des Moines as well.
I would hope there would be a lot more substance provided and proven before anything could affect the Drake program. Mystery coach suddenly shows up between shooting and arrival of police and the first we hear about it is in a civil lawsuit?

It does seem kind of odd that a police officer showed up and was apparently told ... 'nothing to see here, and we can handle it on our own.'

Was Murphy ever granted a "Medical Hardship" by the NCAA after sustaining an early season injury last January?
It's hard to believe that Drake is letting this "smoke cloud" obscure their program, as his eligibility has expired and they can move on w/ life. It's not like Murphy was a 1st Team All-MVC.
Of course if the Asst Coach attempted to coverup the incident, that's a whole different story. But the Iowa Hawkeye 2002 incident shows how a school, coaching staff & legal counsel can reasonably obscure the FACTS of this incident. Since Drake (like UE) is a private school, the information has a lock & chain on it.

Yeah, the old 'private school' thing has gotten out of hand. What goes on in our church stays in our church and any abuses you think you see can be trained on our First Amendment. So we will hire a lawyer and that's that, right? When it comes to he-she-said, it's one thing but even in the case of UE, they are asking the public to support their programs with tickets, merchandise (or a license plate) and I don't honestly need all the inside information. But if somebody is breaking the law, don't ask me to help you keep supporting it with my fandom. But when a player is getting shot or a student is being abused by a coach, goddddddddddddddammmm it, there aren't 2 sets of rules. If a player has been shot at Drake and all we hear about it is a civil suit a full 9 months later, does nobody in Des Moines even bother to care?

How long will it be before we get the true story on the Walter McCarty affair? Will we ever? Will we give a s--t?

I was one of many that thought it was a good hire. All of us were duped.

I think most of us are well past the McCarty drama but the point of this is, if universities are not going to be accountable for these episodes, it's hard for me to support them on any platform. I mean, I get it about public image and donors and alumni and all that, and it's always better to do the right thing. Sometimes it is hard to know what the right thing is.
McCarty was fired. That's all I honestly expect to know about him.
If Drake is fudging on the rules or the law, they need to stop doing that.
