I watched all three of those recently - the last one is a pretty typical example of the sort of "luck" Jim Crews' team endured those last couple seasons. One of the more bizarre endings I've seen.
There's another one out there where Craig Snow got injured and never recovered from... www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8MoUDgmTIg - watch at your own risk. The first 10 minutes or so are fun - 9,000 people were at the game and the crowd was pretty into it - then Snow got hurt and the Aces were clearly lost without him.
The game from 98 is interesting too - sort of sad because you could see how good Runyan was before his injuries. I don't think the Aces could have had any worse luck over that period of time then they had.
Also if you watch those games - particularly the 2001 game - you will never hear any bigger whining homers than those two SIU announcers. They are beyond terrible. It's almost worth listening too it to hear how terrible they are.

The videos are fun because, depending on how far back, there are names of people I knew years ago when they were in the E-ville media ... Wade, Celania, Blake, Bates ...

Roberts Stadium opened in 1956. The first game was against Purdue in the '56-57 season. Lamar Lundy, who I just barely remember from watching football on TV years later, hit the winning shot.

An hour and half interview with former UE Assistant Stafford Stephenson. Stephenson came here with Bobby Watson in 1977, and stayed on with Dick Walters. The Evansville stuff really fires up around the 50 minute mark. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxP-hjQUv10

From the 1965 game -- amazing how big a basketball court looks when there is no advertising, 3pt lines, conference logos, etc put on the court. Only the big "E" at half court.
Not sure what the foul rules were back then, but it appeared a "one and one" was granted most non-shooting fouls. There was one comment in the video where we fouled SIU on our offensive end and the announcer (Marv Bates) said it was a one shot foul (for SIU.) That was interesting.
I see we went to a "4 corners" offense with 2 minutes to go. Shot clock changed that.
CIT sem-final game against UT-Martin --- the announcer mentioned how we had all 5 starters back from the previous year and "next year they will have 12 of 15 back." ---- with the portal no way could they say that today.''
Glad to have DJ back!

NCAA Free Throw Rule Changes:
1923-1924 - The player fouled must shoot his own free throws. Before this rule, one person usually shot all the free throws for a team. 1939-1940 - Teams have the option of taking a free throw or taking the ball at mid-court. 1952-1953 - Teams can no longer waive free throws and take the ball at mid court. 1954-1955 - The one-and-one free throw is introduced allowing a player to take a second free throw if the first one is made. 1955-1956 - The two shot penalty in existence for the last 3 minutes of each half is eliminated; the one-and-one free throw exists for the whole game. 1957-1958 - One free throw for each common foul for the first six personal fouls in a half, and the one-and-one is used thereafter. 1972-1973 - The free throw on the common foul for the first six personal fouls in a half is eliminated. 1983-1984 - Two free throws are issued if a foul occurs in the last two minutes of a half or in overtime. 1985-1986 - If a shooter is intentionally fouled and the basket is missed, the shooter will get two free throws and the team will get possession of the ball. 1987-1988 - Each intentional personal foul carries two free throws and the team possession of the ball. 1990-1991 - Beginning with the teams 10th foul in a half, two free throws are to be awarded for each personal foul. 1990-1991 - Three free throws are awarded when a shooter is fouled from three point range and misses the shot.
