Interesting we contacted another wing, thought a veteran 2 guard might be where we use our last spot. Looks like a great prospect though. Wonder if there might be some other guys who may enter the portal?

Sounds like he would be good on defense, if he can hit the three then he would be even better. No body of work to tell if he can score from perimeter. I would love a 6-5to 6-7 wing who can hit the three and not be a liability on D but may be hard to find. The transfer portal is moving guys who hit a high % of threes faster than the big guys move. The game has changed considerably where guys who can knock down the three are more sought after than big guys.

Wonder if there might be some other guys who may enter the portal? When I look at the roster, wing seems to be our biggest need. I would love to add Davion Bailey and get a backcourt of him and Tayshawn, but then I have no idea who slides into Kenny’s old role. We’d either have to have Haffner slide in there or Cuff as a point forward. Cuff is probably the best option, but then who runs the point for the second unit? I don’t think Kaia will be ready but I’d be pleasantly surprised to see him ready to play immediately. Or we would have to start Hughes and Turnbull together with Ramondo at the 3, and I’m not sure that would be a great lineup either. I think Tayshawn, Haffner, Portal Wing, Ramondo, and Turnbull would be our best starting lineup with Cuff, Hughes, and Pozzato/Braylon? coming off the bench. In a perfect world, we’d have another scholly to be able to add a wing and another great shooter at the guard position, but I don’t see Ragland having any more roster departures this late in the cycle.

I understand your thinking here given what we saw last year, But; This thought of a “second unit” in college basketball has to die! Play your best 5 players. A lot! See ISU and UConn for reference

I don’t remember who said it but he said about drafting a player that he was going to take the best available.
If I read all the posts correctly, Tyler Ringgold just entered the portal and we immediately made the contact. Our coaching staff made this decision and they know our team and the recruits they are talking to. If Tyler can help this team then someone gets more bench time. It doesn’t mean that someone else is leaving.
Looking at his recruiting out of HS he was rated a 3 star and had offers from programs I consider stronger than UE. All those coaches couldn’t have been wrong about him. Fast forward til today and Tyler wants a chance to play somewhere else. No indication that we have offered but we may soon know.
You can’t teach height but at 6-8 225 he has that box checked. If Tyler fills that remaining scholarship I’m all in.

I just need a big guy that you can run the offense thru in the high post, handle the ball decently, shoot the 3 and work with 4 position-less players that have good basketball IQ and can force help defense.

Very active offensively and defensively and can shot the three. Does not appear to have any quit in him. Hudl highlights: www.hudl.com/profile/17030575/tyler-ringgoldSeems to be a “hybrid” forward. Some list him as a PF and some a SF. Might be too good of an athlete to pass on (if mutual interest). “Ringgold played his high school ball at Southern University Lab School in Baton Rouge, LA. Southern University Lab School is a program dedicated to helping high school athletes prepare for the next level and, quite possibly, for the professional level of their sport. Coming out of high school, Ringgold was a three-star prospect with an 85.7 rating. He ranked 236 nationally, 47 among power forwards, and was the second-best player in men’s basketball to come out of the state of Louisiana in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.”

I don’t know how we will do recruiting Tyler but we sure got on him quick. The Coach that I am not says that adding him to the roster gives us the opportunity to keep rotating fresh players and legs into the game like UCON at the NCAAs and Seattle did in Daytona. I also think we also will be better playing big or small against an opponent.
One player doesn’t make the whole difference but he could make a big difference.

See ISU and UConn for reference Agree unless you are going to play a Pitino style pressure defense and recruit that way you don’t need 2 units. A lot of coaches use a rotation of 8 with 5 getting significant minutes. All depends on what you have to work with. I’m with you, focus on a top 5 or 6 with 2 or 3 role players. If you have great coaching and system you can get on a run in March and win a game or two in NCAA tournament with <$1m NIL. You just need about 5 or 6 guys who can ball like Florida Atlantic did. Easier said than done but possible.

Tyler has a visit here set up for Wednesday, May 1st. Huge visit. He’s visiting Tulane today. Also will visit ISUb and Houston Christian. Hearing from Tulsa, UAB, and Portland. Definitely competition but he has so much upside.
