The streaking, soaring, achieving Purple Throng is on a roll after the weekend smash-facing of the Bradley Miltons, leaving the Aces with more wins than losses and a pretty good chance to do some more damage. The weekend series at home against Misery State and the Three Bears is another matter. We remain ambitious. The mission Tuesday is to overcome the evil and nefarious Purdue Matt Painters. Here's what they have on tap for fans for the 5 p.m. (Central time, if you are inclined to need that information) at Alexander Field in West Lafayette, not far from the Tippecanoe Battle memorial (nice place to collect pamphlets but not much else). The game will be streamed on the B1G network and radio as well. $3 hot dogs, beers, nachos and some fan-favorite trading cards of Lamar Lundy, Neil Armstrong and Homer Stonebraker. No joke: It's also Student Appreciation Night. SERIOUSLY? There are common opponents, as you can expect. Purdue beat Michigan State 7-2, 14-0 and 21-1. The Aces had softened the Sparties up, no doubt. UIC beat the Boils back in March. Sickamore Tech has beaten them twice. Boiler State is 25-15 and 8-4 in the B1G, which isn't terrible. I'd pitch around Gaffney if anybody asked me. This is not a must-win for either team. Most likely, Kevin Reed gets the ball for the Wes Carroll All-Stars. No clue on Purdue, oop oop pee doo. The stax, Jack: purduesports.com/documents/2024/3/10/PUR-BSBstats.pdfUE won last year 12-10, also at Alexander Field, which apparently is a destination rather than a pit stop. Here's a photo of said ball facility.

Nice midweek game to keep the Aces card table warm. ISU AGAIN has the week off until Friday's SIU Carbondale series. Two (2) weeks in a row where the Sycs have been mothballed for 4 dayz, and last Friday's 4-3 loss might be tied to these cobwebs, given the 10-1 & 11-1 final two game scores! Gotta keep that engine tuned...

Given that they don't play every day, the mid-week game lets players who are slumping take a different spot in the order, work on what they were coached and get some stats. Hitters really need that on Tuesday or Wednesday. Unless they had a game scheduled that fell through, I can't see how or why they can't find somebody to play, even if it's Wabash Community College. Rose Hulman would probably love to play them.

The internet weather service shows a lot of yellow in the radar around Tippy County. That's either rain or something you shouldn't eat. The game is at 5 Central, and if the Aces are on their way, they will have a pretty good idea by about 3 Central whether to stay or go. If they go on to Purdue, there's a nice Denny's on the road just off I-65.

TJI --from the GPA baseball page. The titanic struggle with the Boilers is now slated for Wednesday.
Some info from the Aces website
Pitching has helped power UE's current eight-game winning streak, as over the last eight games, UE's pitching staff has posted a 3.31 ERA. Freshman left-hander Kevin Reed (3-0, 7.50 ERA) will get the start in Wednesday's contest. Reed is coming off of one of his best outings of the year last time out, as he allowed just three runs (two earned) over 5.0 innings of work at Indiana in the Purple Aces' 5-4 win. Reed has been at his best this year against big-time competition, as he has posted a combined 1-0 record and 4.82 ERA in two starts against Indiana and Kentucky.

Throwaway loss today to the Boiled Purdues 10-6. Reed didn't have much and Nick Smith had to bail him out. It was too cold today to play baseball, but somebody had to do it. The series against the Mo-Bears will be really important. F-S-Su at the Braun. UE stats sheet mvc-sports.com/teamstats.aspx?path=baseball&year=2024&school=evansGoldilocks and the 3 Bears stats and slats mvc-sports.com/teamstats.aspx?path=baseball&year=2024&school=msuAces are 10-5 in the Valley and the other guys are 6-9. So the Aces should win all these games. If only the game was played here at PAP headquarters. Conference standings mvc-sports.com/standings.aspx?path=baseballAt stake is one of the top 4 finishes in the conference to help feather out the MVC tournament games. UE currently is 2nd. It matters if they can at least win 2 games at home. They also have series with UIC at home, and road series at Valpo and Sickly State. Games that matter the most at the moment are the Carbondale Fleabags visiting the Cemetery Annex in Hulman City. That series starts Friday provided none of Hannahs' players have transferred to St Lousy U over the last couple of hours.

If the Aces can't jump a tired ol' Bear, might need to fold the deck. But ya never know, as they could load a 2nd bus w/ the "Sugar Bear's-BA Edition" and leverage some E-side activity! Did you catch the game on the BTN or go the "visual imagery" route as in the ol' dayz via JPS? Thoughts on Smith last night? Why are his SO #'s cut in half?
Btw, ISU is at Carbondale this weekend...not aware of any college BA program's near the level of ISU's shadowed by the Arch!

Sorry, I didn't double-check the schedule to see whether the Skinny Dogs were on a bus or in the henhouse.

Deverman throws a gem tonight. 1 run 4 hits, 2 walks, 6 strikeouts.
4-1 win as UE picks up a game on the trees with their 3-2 loss to the dogs in Carbondale.

Devermann ... Wow, just wow. Easily the Frosh of the Year in the Valley.
A complete game is rare at any level now. Thompson pitched real well for the Bares for about 5 innings.

This win combined with the softball team winning on 3 run walk-off home run made it a good night for the ACES.

I am wishing for 7 more wins to close out the season. That's a 2-of-3 series every week. Ambitious, perhaps because Chicago College is solid and the Hulman Sicklies are upset about something from last night. Meanwhile, another win today against the Goldilocks would be super. 2 p.m. The first 300 fans today get a free live catfish and instructions on how to feed it. We are keeping a close eye on this one. Schultz, recognized by the Valley for his scholar-athlete achievements, is on the slab for the Aces. Harry Truman Potter is throwing for the Dusty Springfields. Shallenberger is in the top 10 in several national categories. Harrison Taubert has become a doubles machine, which is handy when the guy behind him has a 1.15 OPS.

So does anybody definitively know what happened to Smith? Surgery and a loss of electricity? What a shame.

So does anybody definitively know what happened to Smith? Surgery and a loss of electricity? What a shame. I have seen/heard nothing on the "surgery" but he would not be the only pitcher to lose his command. Yeah, I thought he had a shot at a pro draft -- lower rounds, but hey ... a lot of 10th rounders make a living in baseball. Very few highlight innings, that's for sure. I do think Carroll had him in the rotation early on, since he did start one of the games in Tulsa.
