9-7 Aces after 8. Definitely need to close this one out. We led 9-1 after 3 and have not been able to hit their reliever. Good news is we likely will not see him again this weekend.

Meyer closes it out! Aces win 9-7. Also gain a game on Indiana State.
Huge win tonight.

Third time through the order is rough on these guys. Deverman got BABIP'd to death and turned a great start into a mediocre start.
The lefty for Bradley was lights out. Lucky for UE, they might not see him again.
Two really amazing catches by Bradley outfielders. That was worth about 5 runs.

UE ambushed the Reddybirds, no doubt. In a best-of-39, it's hard to say who's better. I am seeing very good pitching in short stretches for several teams, the Aces included. In any case, no serious trends are emerging. It's the same Valley, but it's been fun to see some of the veterans on these teams. The best part is, unlike a joke that basketball has become, the players are sticking around. But there are also some really good frosh coming along. We will see if the SEC starts tampering with the Valley, and I don't doubt they have that in mind. Baseball is beginning to define Valley programs in some ways.

ISU was so hard up for a LH SP that they moved the #1 reliever (accustomed to maybe 2 innings) into the Friday starting slot. He's quickly discovering that you just can't just fling FB's w/o incurring a case of "rag arm" over 4 innings! He's the one w/ the Frank Zappa hair design who couldn't see 3B when the Vandy kid stole home! He's from MI, so he might be a "House of David" protege...

Good to see us playing better. Still a lot of work to do though, especially because of the slow start.
That link above shows Indiana State with a 5-5 record against Q1 teams and us 0-5. Certainly not looking like an at-large is possible. Not sure if running the table would even do that but we need every conference win we can get.
The team is playing really well. Too bad we can’t get Nick Smith untracked. He has to be injured as his ERA was in the 4’s the last two seasons. This year’s ERA is 13.66 in 27 2/3 innings. They either need to shut him down (unless it is meaningless innings) or figure something out quickly. Luckily the two freshmen LHPs have been a pleasant surprise.

So Michigan St,Indiana, and Purdue are not Quad 1 games.Im guessing our 5 losses were to Mississippi St,Vandy, and Kentucky.

Any SEC win within reason elevates your status. IMO, being able to get on their schedule speaks highly of a program. You play at Miss State, and 9,000 fans are watching. A whole BUNCH of teams would take one game there, let alone a whole series. Vandy plays a lot of mid-majors on weekday games. Getting UK is currently a pretty nice game.

Nick brings experience to the roster, which is a big deal. He's not getting high leverage innings, so I assume whatever he's suffered has affected his mechanics or delivery. Using him like that last night was optimal, but I think he's depending on contact outs now instead of the K-ball. I thought he had some pro hopes after last year.

Shallenberger raising his rep even more with a long 3-run dinger. If Schultz can stretch his innings to 7, this is likely a series win. Lutz isn't pitching poorly for the Bradley Beavers, but he unraveled in the 4th.

Bradley offense almost entirely based on BABIP -- hitter's luck.

Aces lead 5-1 at the end of 7. Schultz with a very strong 7 innings. Hopefully, Wes turns it over to the pen from here.
