Insight from article when EKU signed him out of high school: inbasketballsource.com/recruiting-news/7128-eku-lands-tayshawn-comer“… The Indianapolis native sported offers from Butler, Loyola, Ball State, Miami of Ohio, Bradley, Southern Illinois, and others before picking EKU... The biggest strength for Comer is his burst off the dribble. Very few players could contain him off the dribble this spring and summer with the Indy Heat. His blow-by speed with the ball in his hands is rare. That ability to get past defenders elevates his college potential beyond others that might be more efficient right now...” In high school he did shot the three at a reasonable percentage but not at a high volume. Guessing that Rags must have been the recruiter at Butler since the word was that the recruit had a previous connection with coach Ragland. He was the starting PG on an EKU team that won the ASUN regular season with a 12-4 regular (17-14 overall). Started 66 of 68 games in two seasons at EKU. Shot 36.5% from 3 last year with one made three per game. Averaged around 8 ppg and 3 apg and about one steal per game with a good assist/turnover ratio. 3-Star out of high school: 247sports.com/Recruitment/tayshawn-comer-138942/RecruitInterests/Hudl high school videos: www.hudl.com/profile/11969717/Tayshawn-Comer/highlightsFrom May 2022: Senior Tayshawn Comer reflects on his legacy His four years include a State title and school scoring record irishconnection.net/14656/sports/senior-tayshawn-comer-reflects-on-his-legacy/

Similar stats and shooting percentage as Bailey? Quickness and burst off the dribble are strengths like Bailey? I guess this is Chuck’s replacement except he’s 4 inches shorter than CB3.

I looked at videos of both Ashton Williamson and Tashawn Comer and I see similar players. What I really like about Tashawn is his game was at EKU against D-1 college players. If he is in fact coming to UE we will have a true point guard that can set up the offense and score when needed. Tashawn will also allow the coaches to recruit a true 3-pt shooter to work with Cam to provide the outside threat we desperately need.
Now get to work on bringing in Connor Turnbull. We need him to fill that power forward spot that is needed to replace Ben and Yacine. Connor has many of their skills combined.
Getting these two will give us two shots if I counted right to bring in true centers who can bang and compete against Valley big men. With over 1300 in the portal surely we can find a big bruiser who can defend and rebound in the paint.
If we can plug our holes with the above we would be able to better utilize Tanner, Joshua and Sekou across the front line. That leaves us with Braylon, Gui and Michael all freshmen to keep developing and hopefully contribute where needed. Braylon a 6-5 driver, Gui looked as tall as Yacine and I’m sure he battled him daily and Michael who is maybe our 7-footer. These three still have plenty of time to develop.
I’m hoping for big success from the portal yet and more success next year.

Appears to be an upgrade at the PG spot from what I can see.

This is Antonio’s replacement with more or chucks skillset. I like that he has similar athleticism and burst as Chuck, but he has a significantly better assist to turnover ratio compared to Chuck. Hopefully the coaches can help Tayshawn cut down on the turnovers and get that ratio even higher. Tayshawn would be a great addition at point guard for us.

From the little amount of video I watched on him, he is excellent on the defensive end.

Similarities in speed and explosiveness; but Chuck is more of a SG, where Tashawn is more of a PG. We needed an experienced PG with Antonio graduating. So, I would say Tashawn is the "replacement" for Antonio.

Looks like a good, necessary first addition for this off-season to me.

I agree with him being brought in as a PG, but what does that mean for Cuff's future role with the team? I thought he was brought in to be a big PG.
I guess this means that Kaia Berridge will need to take a redshirt year in 2024-2025 to develop his skills to be a college level player.

Doesn't mean they can't be on the court at the same time just like Tanner and Antonio were. I would expect Kaia to be behind these two more experienced players.

Agree, Tanners game is so versatile and he’s so good backing down smaller guys under basket I see him much more in the “point forward” role and a second pg on the floor. He is a position less player and is definitely 1-3 but could also play small ball 4 in situations.

http://instagram.com/p/CnlENR1tZg3 I haven’t seen many videos online of his college highlights, but here’s some on Instagram from his freshman season. Definitely looks like a much better finisher at the rim than Antonio. Shoots the 3 at a higher volume than Antonio and at a higher %. His overall shooting % is lower than Antonio’s, but he took more shots. I’m sure the coaches will work with him in shot selection and turnovers and he will end up being a great addition for us. For the Tanner Cuff discussion, I don’t think this affects him much at all. He seems like a very humble, team oriented guy, and I’m sure he could play with Tayshawn on the court. Imo, I think Tanner will likely just stay as our spark plug off the bench and be the leader of the second unit next year. He can still get 20+ mpg coming off the bench, and Rags seems to like to sub him in for situational mismatches where he can exploit his post game. Maybe he will start them together, but based on what we saw this year, I would put my money in him being the leader of the second unit. Sturtz had a similar role at drake for years and it led to a lot of success for both himself and the Drake team.
