Tuesday 6 pm game at home with Sooey-Edwardsville ahead of a home series with the Carbondale annex on FSSu.
The Edwards are 7-17 and have just started OVC play (2-1 with a series win over Lindenwood).
If you go (and you should) the Cougars have a 1.200 OPS guy in Lucas Spence. Zack Floyd is a long ball threat.
UE has dominated the series, 20-10. Pitchers not yet announced. Expect a bullpen game of some sort.
After that, the Egyptian Mange comes to town. We will take a look at that series later.

Misinformation. This week's games against Dawgpound College are Thursday-Fri-Sat., on account of Easter.

UE pitching hits the wall in this one. Wes is even using Nick Smith in relief and it's not working.

Wow - not good. Down 14-5 in the ninth inning to a team that is 7-17 and throwing four guys with high ERAs (14.09, 8.87, 18.42, 6.75). stats.statbroadcast.com/mobile/?id=502725Update: Lose 14-6. Could be reason for concern as we have now lost six straight and are 9-15.

It's possible that Carroll could have gone longer with Reed than he did, but he will be needed this weekend, for sure. The ugly part of this is Nick Smith's poor outing again. Hansmann showed up really weak in mopup. It is possible SIUE is better than its record and their leadoff guy did what he's been doing. A couple of other hitters maybe got lucky. I remain cautiously hopeful about this team because it's veterans are still scoring runs. Hug should be in form again fairly soon. Line to line, this team is very good. Right now, the staff ace is a frosh lefty and that's not where they wanted to be. Skinny Dogs are 17-8, which is the best record of any Valley team except the Tree Stumps, who are busy playing net ball in Hinkleton. Three SIUC wins over Valpo last weekend, proving the Beaconaders are just another team. But the Salooks lost to UT-Martin ahead of Friday's game. They are vulnerable because on account of we put the hex on them here at HQ. It's a pre-eclipse snubroot session. Worked back in 1251 and again in 1645.
Hesston Grey and Trey Cutchen are two Carbs I'd keep off the bases, so I've wired Wes to see that's done. As usual in college pitching, ERA is a fluid stat, since it's often a couple of bad innings in February that are hard to wipe off the slate because these guys only pitch one game a week. Neither team has announced its pitchers. Deverman and Schultz will doubtless go for the Aces. Smith did pitch Tuesday, but only until his head was dented. He will be all right. Thursday night is 6 p.m. WJPS and ESPN+ on the network. Friday and Saturday to wrap it ahead of Easter. We can also discuss, in this order: Sickly State basketball, Aces softball, "track and field" or the Great Eclipse of 2024. Your odds of all of this working out favorably depend on your coordinates. Somewhat peculiar game at the Braun. Widder gets a hit and 12 men later, that's the only hit in the inning. 7 walks and it could have been more. Hug was 3 feet from a granny. Shally will 2 doubles.

That is crazy. Six runs in the seventh inning on one single, seven walks, one error and two sac flies. Up 9-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning. Update: 12-2 final.

Pitching matchups for Friday-Saturday ESPN++ and WJPS
Friday, 6 PM CT: UE LHP Kenton Deverman (2-1, 4.46 ERA) vs. SIU LHP Al Holguin (2-2, 3.49 ERA) Saturday, 1 PM CT: UE LHP Donovan Schultz (0-1, 8.77 ERA) vs. SIU RHP Aidan Foeller (2-0, 5.00 ERA)
Since Nick Smith pitched relief on Tuesday ineffectively, it's possible he's not healthy. I have not heard that but he may not be the ace we wanted him to be.

…Shane Harris with a really strong start. 6 IP, 2 runs, and 3 K's. Shane has pitched well since his first two outings at Oral Roberts. In 1.1 innings at Oral Roberts he gave up nine runs. In his last 24 innings he has given up nine runs (2 at Vanderbilt; 2 at Michigan State; 3 against Murray State; and 2 tonight against SIU - those are all quality opponents).

Was at the game and still not familiar with the "clock" rules as it was enforced against Widder (think it was bottom of 2nd) --- it ultimately was a K since he already had 2 strikes in the at bat.
Weather is going to be nice Friday, but a lot of people will be staying home to watch the Purdue/Gonzaga game.
B-hum was at the game and I simply wished him the best -- and offered him $100 NIL money.

It could be a matter of the ump making a judgment on that but there are some clear rules: In the box, bat at the ready, eye contact with the pitcher and feet set. They didn't show a replay on Widder and I wasn't paying close attention. At the time, that was an important flub.

Unfortunately, Smith has been ineffective all season. Hopefully he can get some bullpen innings and work his way back. One report said Smith had "surgery" and I only know that because I heard it on a stream. Since there was no other discussion, for all I know it was to remove a mole from his right arm. But he did have to ramp up his innings and a college schedule is a tough place to do that.
