Aces, losers of only 2 of their last 3 games, are on the road Tuesday at Lexington, not far from Concord, where the horses run free and so does the bourbon. UK is 17-3, a national SEC threat and probably the toughest game UE will face all season until Omaha. Uncle Kent took 3 in a row over 25th-ranked Sweet Georgia Brown last weekend and has won 5 in a row. That will end Tuesday when the Aces visit. The Wildkitties have a recent win over Murray, which will open the MVC season on Friday at the Braun. We will take a closer look at the Racing Pigs later this week. Tuesday's game is at 5:30 p.m. CDT. Live on 107.1 FM-WJPS and on the SEC Network+ streaming service, which is handy if you have that subscription. UK's stats are here in PDF form. storage.googleapis.com/ukathletics-com/2024/03/206565b7-base_stats_031624.pdfKentucky Proud Park is fairly representative of most SEC stadiums -- in another phrase -- way more than they deserve.

Carroll still hasn't named a pitcher for today's game. This from the website GPA:
Graduate outfielder Mark Shallenberger continues to lead the UE offense with a .406 average. Shallenberger has reached base safely in 35-straight games dating back to last year, and he currently ranks 10th in NCAA Division I baseball with 10 hit-by-pitches, and 18th in Division I baseball in on-base percentage at .564. Shallenberger has not gone more than four consecutive trips to the plate without reaching base so far this year.

Carroll still hasn't named a pitcher for today's game... From the today's game notes: Today: LHP Kevin Reed (2-0, 7.50 ERA) As previously mentioned by ATP, Kentucky is 17-3 and they have a very good pitching staff. So, this game is likely going to be challenging to win and runs hard to come by (for us). But win or lose, this game should benefit us down the road in conference play.

These games are great recruiting tools. Players want to compete against the very best and the SEC is, top to bottom, the best collegiate baseball. Thanks for adding the pitcher. I don't think he was listed the last time I looked at the website.

Shally and Widder (double and a dinger) drive in runs to help Reed. Aces up 3-0 in the 5th. Reed tossing a 1-hitter at UK. Ya never know.
Reed disliking prosperity, is in hot water in his half of the 5th. Kitties are on the board and it's wobbly.

Fiddlesticks. I guess we need to win it in the 8th.
Harris in for Reed and does not hold the line.
3-3.

Bell and Meyer are in over their heads now. UK is strafing these relievers.
We will gettum next year.

It was close for a while but seven runs given up by Bell and Meyers in 1/3 of an inning was the difference as the Aces lose 11-3. Bell has otherwise been solid this year. stats.statbroadcast.com/mobile/?id=503979&vislive=evanReed, Fieger and Kressin pitched well. On the offensive side, Shallenberger doubled in a run (to extend his streak of reaching base safely to 36-straight games); Widder with a two run homer and Kip F with two hits. UK is good. Note: I decided to not even try to spell Kip's last name (without looking it up).

The Murray Nags are 14-6 in non-con games and 8-1 since they were swept at national powerhouse Arkansas. The only Racer loss in those 9 was to ... um ... Kentucky 10-6. Like most teams this early, the score a lot of runs. Comparable opposition: Murray took 3 in a row from Purdue Ft Wayne Campus to open the season. With 36 HR, they lead all Valley teams in that category and are in the middle in most other offensive categories. Team ERA 4.46 is second in the Valley to Sickly State. UE took 2 of 3 last year at Murray's ballpark and again in late May (3-2) in the MVC tournament at the Terre Haute cemetery grounds. Note: I decided to not even try to spell Kip's last name (without looking it up). I always have that problem with Rennsalaer Renssalaer and Churubushko Churubusco and of course Massachussets Massachusets Massachusetts and if Spellchecker doesn't underline it, I am good to go.
