I believe Alex thinks UE is a below standard school for him.Just my opinion. You're entitled to your opinion, but unless you know him personally, there is no way that you can possibly know what Alex thinks of UE. His Dad is a UE grad, so I doubt he looks down on UE. He has his degree, and now needs to also find a post grad fit. There are always reasons why an athlete picks a certain school that the rest of us don't know, or need to know.

I am not sure I would classify stating what someone thinks is an actual opinion. Like aceschamps said, we have no clue what he thinks and certainly not what he considers "below standard". He is obviously looking for something besides just being at a P5 program.

As for Joey Hart going to Ball State, Michael Lewis is trying to build a program there. When he was on the staff at UCLA, he was someone I was hoping might replace Lickliter at UE. If he gets good NIL support, Lewis is going to be a factor in recruiting Indiana players going forward.

I know of at least two players who stayed on at a school while they waited for their wives to graduate. There is more to moving around than just asking if they have a locker and some NIL money. For a player who can make virtually every roster in America, playing time is somewhere on his list of considerations.

The deadline to enter the portal is supposed to be May 1, but if a school had a coaching change in the last 30 days, those players have extra time, not sure, but think it's 30 days after their coach leaves. So in theory, nearly all the players going into the portal will be in it by Wednesday. So coaches by then will pretty well know who is going to be available. But players in the portal do not have a May 1 deadline to pick a school. Recruiting the portal will continue for the next month before players hit their deadline to choose.

Reminds me of the grinning gal on the Toyota commercial, who prances onto the screen telling us about the great year-end sale. But hurry, she says, this sale won't last long!

Good overview of how the portal works. Also graduate transfers can enter at anytime. Since student/athletes have to be enrolled in classes to play, I presume they could wait as long as mid-August to make a decision. However, they probably want to make a decision much sooner so they can practice over the summer. The transitional spring signing period ends May 15th, so likely will see a flurry of activity over the next couple of weeks; but this deadline does not technically apply to transfers - but again common sense says their preference would be to make their decision soon after completing their course work at where they are now. www.inquirer.com/college-sports/ncaa-transfer-portal-football-basketball-explained-dates-process-20240417.html

Because I'm a bit old school and a lot naive about this N.I.L. thing. Someone please explain to me this whole pay for play deal. Are students/players considered employees? If so, who do they "work" for? The school? The N.I.L. doners? The alumni? How are they paid? ....weekly or monthly during the season? A lump sum? If they blow out a knee in practice and never play a game, are they still paid the full amount offered to attend the university? Do they take legal counsel to work multiple contract offers? Are they 10-99?
I just read the article "austinace" linked but not one time does it mention $$$$$, which is what this actually boils down to. Next step is high school phenom Juniors and Seniors, hiring attorneys to rep them through their four years of college. Why go pro, when a kid can make a few million staying four years in college and whore himself out each year to the highest bidder. Million dollar multi year deals will have to become common, just to possibly secure a group intact after one season.
Seems like it wasn't all that long ago, when it was a violation to pay for a kids dinner at the local diner.

Good question my daughter recently graduated college and got a large portion of her schooling paid for the scholarships. She had to pay taxes on that like it was income NIL is it considered income

Personal opinion is that we are in the wild Wild West phase of NIL and crazy money being thrown around everywhere. Eventually things will settle down and the big money deals will evaporate somewhat when donors realize they aren’t getting a bang for their buck. The long term math doesn’t add up. Fuzzy math to be precise. This NIL is also turning off a lot of people. Curious to see basketball attendance and TV ratings these next few years. NBA ratings are already there.

There will always be Mister Richguy who graduated from Bigshot State who wants to be able to sit in the front row who will write checks to get the best players possible because, in his world, he don' settle for nothn' but the best. Rich people with childish attitudes about sports is what it's always been about. They just don't have to launder the money now. But there is no way they can undo this.
