Link further down. Baker seems like the NCAA version of Rob Manfred. Not sure if he wants Congress to screw this up or tell Congress he doesn't need their help. I think his comment on transfers is apples vs. oranges. Baker's brief interview on ESPN here: www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/39564382/ncaa-president-charlie-baker-transfer-rule-limitations"Do they transfer more than they did ten years ago? Yes. Do they transfer more than their peers who aren't student-athletes? No," Baker said. "... They actually transfer less than students who aren't student-athletes do, and kids just transfer more because they have more information, more data, and they're more impatient about a lot of things."

Read deeper in the article. Expansion of the tourney was also brought up, with “big money conference leaders” being in favor of it as long as it allows for more of their schools to qualify meaning they want their 6-14 (13-18 overall) teams to get in over a deserving 20+ win mid major and the metrics used say that’s the way it should be.

The only thing Baker and his cast of clowns knows to do is pander to the P5, while ESPN goes cheering along. Why on earth would you write a story and only mention "big money conference leaders" when discussing expansion. Every one with a pulse knows they aren't the ones getting screwed. Sure, it sounds like a great idea only if it means a sub .500 Ohio State can get in over a 25 win Drake team.
The only thing they have not caved on is the 5-year tournament exclusion for programs moving to D-1. Of course, that rule only impacts low-major programs so let's show em' we still have integrity for our rules.

Baker wasn't brought in to fix college basketball. He already uses the word "perfect" to describe it. I'd argue that there really IS a difference between Chuck Bailey, 4-star basketball player, walking through the portal and Ned Nerd, engineering student, transferring to MIT. One of these guys is connected to a business where about $2 million annually is generated for the tournament that Baker claims he wants to expand. The rationale that more teams means a better tournament. Depending on which "more teams" he means, and we all know that the entire ACC will qualify.
When everyone in the Valley competes nicely against the OVC, we're golden at HQ.
The percentage of kids transferring to other schools is really not germane to the conversation. Basketball fans don't read ESPN articles about nursing students. They buy tickets to watch Chuck Bailey, not Mary Tinkerbell, nursing student. The only vague comparison is if guys like Ron Glass had left the UE Drama Department in 1968 and left us with some kids who could memorize their parts.
But they just love it when North Texas wins the NIT.
