I tend to cut these guys a lot of slack because, you know ... they're not professional yet. If you never dribbled one off your foot or tossed one into the cheerleaders, you'd be in a rare group. I know I know ... they practice 4 days a week and go over this stuff ... but it's a lot more crowded on the court than it seems and, strangely, the other team is trying to beat them.

I thought our players did an excellent job coming back after being down 30-15.We had the lead by 2 then got outscored 10-0 over I believe a 4 minute stretch. Offensive wise Haffner played well the 1st half and Strawbridge has been playing well lately. I believe our team is ahead of schedule considering Rags got a late start.

Cannot figure out Coach Ragland...Cam Haffner was having an outstanding game shooting and Only plays for 15 min 🤦♂️🤷♂️ At the start of the 2nd half the starter were doing well both offensively and defensively. The normal substitution pattern at the under 16 timeout was delayed all the way to the under 8 timeout. It just turned out yesterday that in the 2nd half our super subs did not have a great affect on the play of the game.

Cannot figure out Coach Ragland...Cam Haffner was having an outstanding game shooting and Only plays for 15 min 🤦♂️🤷♂️ I’m a big fan of coach Ragland but would be interested on the reasoning on this as well. His +/- numbers were the best on the team yesterday; in fact, he was the only UE player with a positive +/- number yesterday; which translates to we were winning/gaining when he was on the floor. Guessing that Gage got a lot of his minutes when the starters came back in. Possibly it was for chemistry reasons; but it did seem like Cam had the hot hand but was not rewarded for it.

The Redbirds shot the lights out , but one reason they did was our defense let them...we have left 3-point shooters open all year and this game was no exception....all that switching results in us racing out to throw a hand up against a corner shooter, usually too late and with results like the Cam foul which gave the shooter 3 free throws.
Also, couldn't understand Haffner not playing more minutes right when he has seemed to have regained his shooting touch. Our offense was struggling to match the Redbirds' and we sure needed the points he was bringing.
I thought their big post player would back his defender up, leading with his elbow ... never got called once... made a huge difference in their points in the paint.
I think we are improving, but so is everyone else! Gonna take a concentrated effort, cleaning up self-induced turnovers, defending the 3, and wise shot selection and the right rotation selection to make a statement in the tournament. We can't be satisfied to just 'be better than last year.'I hope the guys are wanting more!
Go, ACES!

In the 2nd half, when Ben scored 18-20 pts, the other 4 players were rewarded with extended playing time, whether they were contributing or not. Thats Raglands perception in keeping that unit on the floor.

I too think Cam played too little minutes. Although his last moments on the court was him being visibly exhausted and accidentally committing the foul while the guy was shooting a 3. That’s unfortunate for a kid who is already getting slim minutes. As someone mentioned. The second half was very unique. It was a while for the first timeout to happen. I was surprised he didn’t sub at that moment, but the group was rolling. Same with the under 12. He did sub at the under 8, but the group was only in for 3 minutes or so. And as someone also mentioned, we needed to get the starters back in. I think in a more typical game, Cam would have had a chance to come in the second half and see if he can duplicate his efforts.

Thats Raglands perception in keeping that unit on the floor. Totally agree, but at least those 4 understood it was the Ben show. You can’t risk bringing someone in thinking it’s their turn.

Haffner has had a frustrating season and overall, he's not been worthy of the praise that is being lavished on him. I think he has a chance of nailing 3 or 4 long shots every game, but his shooting has been erratic at best. I think he busts his butt on defense and seems to be inclined to guard possessions better than Toumi or Bailey.
It's a fool's errand to evaluate any group of players on the court. They all play different roles. At that, the premise is to tend toward doing the things you do best, not to always achieve that. You can't control the whole game. If you are supposed to rebound, then you should be attempting to get rebounds. You can't ask the other team to make that easy for you.

So now it’s Haffner, ok it was Bailey. Do you realize how comical it would be if all you making these substitution recommendations were the coach for a few games, as much knowledge that you have im surprised that’s not your profession. Let’s just imagine, I guy that’s has shot in 20% area from 3, a starter come in to practice and coach says hey Haffner is now the starter because he had a good 15 minutes. We wouldn’t keep any players, if he kept switching starters! 99% of the time the players trust the coachs! if Haffner repeats his offensive performance the next couple of games you will probably see him get more minutes or will he resort back to the percentages. I will say his release looked solid and his shoulders were square. Illinois State has turned in around, they just beat the number one team in the valley by 13 on the road, so the best couldn’t do

I told Dad a couple games ago that it's just a matter of time for Cam to explode with that breakout game when he establishes himself. I'd never thought when he got it going, he'd become a spectator. Back to square one.
