Excellent Part 1 of 2 part interview Father Harry has with Marcus. Marcus explains some of what occurred since last season and in my mind dispels much of the vitriol seen on this forum. Looking forward to hearing part 2.

I never lost total faith in Marcus, but the tweet he sent putting NIL $$ figures on our UE players really pi$$ed me off. It was a "put up $ or shut up" to UE fans, when he knows that it is unrealistic for UE donors to put up that kind of cash. UE is in the middle of the FORWARD campaign to raise $120mil for all aspects of the university, yet we are stuck around $80mil for the last year. So most likely, any cash sent to NIL is going to take away from other donations that will benefit all students. Also, putting $ figures on players completely disregards the "student" part of student-athletics. Our AD and all of our coaches work tremendously hard to make sure these athletes are succeeding in the classroom.

Looking forward to hearing part 2. In my opinion, it confirmed almost as much as it dispelled. I don’t think he is shopping our players or has a vendetta against the university, but he did essentially confirm the theory that he was considering package deals for him and John for their next school. If I was Ragland, I’m not sure how I’d feel about that and I could see how it could lead to a messy departure. He was very candid in the interview about John’s recruitment. Hopefully he is as open in part two which sounds like it will discuss UE and the current season. I don’t see how he can discuss the current season without commenting something on why he left the staff. Hopefully he gives an answer that can allow us all to move on. Either way, im sure he’ll be very supportive of the team and the roster he helped assemble during the interview, which is good to see.

Part of the conversation he mentioned that he is good at identifying and developing talent, and said he did not like all the other stuff college coaches are tasked with doing. (Maybe the reason he left UE.) But then he talked about the Florida situation and that he would of been a coach there (along with bringing in Jon.) So that confused me a bit that was going right back into it coaching after UE. Maybe Florida initially promised that all he had to do was recruit and develop talent, but when he got there the situation had changed.

In part 2, Wilson says Schertz at InSU is doing a good job on NIL and is rumored to be a candidate for the DePaul job. He also says he's not interested in future college coaching provided he can continue to do what he's doing.

Looking forward to hearing part 2. I wasn't disappointed with the 2nd part of the interview. I thought part two was pretty good. He directly addressed a lot of tweets that have gotten us fired up and I thought his explanations were pretty good and genuine. I know I’ve beat this dead horse a million times, but I hope we are working to be competitive in the NIL sector like he discussed. His comments about not being able to compete with Indiana State because kids are being offered $20k and a car was pretty clearly about Isaiah Swope. He practiced all summer at our facilities with our players, so I like to think we could’ve had a pretty good shot if our NIL was more competitive.

Hate to say this, but when the hand of the IRS reaches out for those kids at ISU who got a car and 20k (you know, they will want their 25 to 30%), they will find out soon enough. And we all know that the government will get their money. And since they got this last year, they will have file those taxes by April.

You really think a collective is cutting a $20,000 check to a star player and not making sure the kids are informed and prepared to handle their tax obligations?

The Sycamores (#1 in the Valley) best players = $20k The Aces best players > $150k
I'm starting to wonder if Wilson told "his guys" that the $ would be here if they signed here.

I was shocked and pleasantly surprised when it was announced that Marcus was joining the staff. Surprised in that, as I said back then, he had a lot of irons in the fire with things he was very passionate about. You could tell he was all in with Nurturing Potential and working with kids in general. It was apparent he really loved all of it.
His desire to see change and a restoration of the men's basketball program also ran deep. Deep enough that he knew he could impact that as well. So he came and his impact is still being felt. Perhaps we can't agree on that statement, but that's how I feel.
Sometimes you take a job and realize it's not what was presented, that it was more than you expected, or you didn't care for certain aspects of it. I've been there so I get it. If going to work every day is a grind, change is necessary. You have to look out for your family and yourself first. As for looking at a package deal for him and Jon, there's several examples of that in the college basketball ranks. The obvious one that comes to mind is at Northern Iowa.
I don't know, nor do I care at this point, whether there was some kind of rift between Marcus and Rags. Was there a shooter on the grassy knoll? People need to do what my daughter and her friends were saying back in middle school, moving on.
We may never know if he directs a player to or away from our beloved Aces. My hope is that he still feels strongly about a return to relative prominence and he directs some talent our way.

Marcus’s ego is too big to be an assistant.
Thats why he said “im a talent evaluator and dont like doing the other stuff”
News Flash: Talent evaluating is the easiest thing a College Coach does. The hard stuff is the grind and why you don’t see 50 yr old men getting into the biz, and why NBA coaches don’t usually work out.
