Only down one at half, they fought back. Just watching on ESPN but nice to see that David Ragland is in the stands rooting them on!

It appears that they have a couple of winnable games coming up this week at home as they play the two one-win teams just above them (Valpo and Bradley) in the conference.

Tied up at 48-48 with 1min left in the 3rd qtr, then UIC goes on a 13-0 run. Pretty much sums up many of our games this year. Our play was very poor in the first qtr, but they fought back and made it a game. Points off turnovers are killing us -- a 26-16 edge for UIC.

Aces lose 70-59 to Valpo on Sunday -- a game of the cellar dwellers. I can say this, the women play hard, scramble for loose balls, and never give up. It basically comes down to some injuries and a lack of talent. We don't have any pure shooters, so that will plague us all year. Also the offense is a bit dribble/hand-off centric vs pass-it-around the horn. If we had better ball-handlers it might be effective, but often the ball ends up on the floor with a mad scramble for possession. Lastly, we just are not good at finishing at the rim, either on drives or offensive rebound put-backs.

If there is not significant improvement next year, is the writing on the wall for Robyn and her staff? Time will tell. Hopefully we see some improvement. Ball handlers and shooters sound like a must; in addition to keeping players like Maggie and Nevaeh. I believe this is Robyn’s third year and next year I believe is year four (correct me if I am wrong). Presumably they likely gave her 4-5 years to turn this around. I’m rooting for her and the team. They are currently 2-18 overall and 0-9 in conference. They had won eight and eleven games in the two previous seasons. We rank 343 out of 348 teams in scoring margin. On average, we are being outscored by 20.1 points a game. www.ncaa.com/stats/basketball-women/d1/current/team/113/p7Their two wins have been by a total of three points over Chicago State and Lindenwood. They have not won a game since December 16th.

She did sign a contract extension this past summer. Hopefully this season is a one-off and my opinion is she will be given at least another 2 years. Tene Smith (Freshman) has been getting more playing time and has the potential to be a better point guard for us. Maggie has struggled shooting, but has a lot of upside once the game "slows" down for her.

She has shown she can talk the talk but can she walk the walk? I’m not sure she’s right for this job. I will give her until her contract expires. Marked improvement or move on.

Not sure how you keep someone who doesn’t win a conference game in year 3
There will be no ability to recruit better players at the end of the season

That is a valid opinion. My guess is UE will take in consideration that the team is young and 3 of our freshman have shown potential to be good players.
The one glaring thing is that we barely squeaked out 2 wins this year and only a 4pt win in our EXH game against Oakland City -- a team USI beat by almost 50 pts a few days later.
I want to say we should be able to assemble a decent team by recruiting Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky -- but realistically competition will be tough for those players as USI has a coach that's been around for 25 yrs and deep connections in the area. Not to mention they have a pretty good facility for the women to play.

I’m not advocating for firing her. I’ve only watched 1 half of a game. (To be fair, they aren’t skilled enough to run the offense she’s running, and had much more success with their sets than their motion) What I am saying is: no matter how young the team is, if you can’t win 1 game in conference by year 3 = that is a serious problem. It means you haven’t figured out how to win in the league as a coach. (I get it Meeks, blah blah etc) But HS coaches and their Parents won’t believe that she will Be there for their kids 4 years and will steer them elsewhere. Winning is the problem, not USI

44's concerns about recruiting seem on-target. Maybe not quite yet, but once her future becomes in doubt, it will be. It happened to Marty and Lickliter and Ruffing never did appear to have a future.
I am not giving up on her because she does have a great track record and certainly seems to have the personality and drive we haven't had on the ladies side in quite some time. I am concerned that there has been a lot of defections in the last 3 years, by both players and assistants. Is she hard to get along with behind closed doors?
At this point, based on her track record and public demeanor, I would give her until the men's program is back on track, or at least 5 years. We need to keep the focus on the men for now since it is the only true revenue sport in the program. We have said before a rising tide lifts all boats and it is more than coincidence that the women's team had some of their best seasons in the 90's.

If you count tuition in the revenue equation, I believe men's soccer is our largest revenue program.
