Aces down 22-6 after one quarter.
Live stats are down. As previously mentioned this team is extremely young. Their best players seem to be freshmen (Thomas and Hartwig) and then sophomore Kynidi Striverson. They also start juniors Gerke and Lexie Sinclair.
For the most part they have not looked too bad outside of two major/critical issues:
1. They are very poor on finishing on the offensive end. They make some pretty good move to the basket and then throw up some wild shot or a shot put type of shot.
2. On defense they just can’t close out their stops (while Missouri State is much better on finishing).
Down 31-12 now with 4:07 to the half.
Update: Thomas is basically our offense in this game with nine of our first 13 points. We need more options on offense and need to close out better on defense and rebound better - giving up too many second chance points on MSU’s offensive rebounding and put backs.

Thanks. I corrected.
I’ve just watched a few minutes here and there, but there seems to be a lot of dribbling too. Some of that may because Missouri State is pushing them out on the floor and taking away the passing lanes a little bit, but it would be better if they passed more and limited the dribbling in my opinion.
For some reason those live stats are not coming up on my iPhone but can try on the desktop or laptop later.

That last sentence seems spot on. I was impressed watching on computer how encouraging Maggie was towards her teammates when she was on the bench. Agree with comments that she could develop into a steady Abby Fiet type of consistent force. Thomas will keep getting better with experience and coming back from injury.

Good news is Maggie and Navaeh were a combined 13-23 FG's, bad news is the rest of the was 5-28 FG's. Overall we shot 17-51 and 3-19 3FG.
Our next 7 games are against teams in the bottom half of the MVC -- would be nice to get 2 or 3 W's to give the team a boost. Although we took the loss in the Murray St game, I felt the team energy both on the court and the bench was the best it has been in several weeks. A few games this year, they really looked dejected on the bench.

I watched the game tonight on ESPN+ as I do all their games and they are playing short handed and need more skilled players on the team. Austin made an observation that I have been complaining to my wife about all season is that they throw up to many wild shots and scoop shots that are more easily deflected without fouling.
Many of the players get way too many minutes for a Valley team which is back to my skills comment. We have Maggie and Nevaeh who are our future along with Kynidi who is a shooting guard. The rest are basically bench players.
The coaches have to recruit better or they will remain at or near the bottom of the conference. The November signees look better on paper but we will have to wait until next year to see if they can fit into the Valley. Right now I would just like to see them make it to a .500 team.
I agree that for whatever reason there is more enthusiasm on this team now than earlier this year or previous years. Hopefully this attitude will carry over until they can get the skill help they need.

BTW does anyone know what happened to our Aussie players? I thought they were the front end of our team rebuild and added to the three I mentioned would put a tougher team on the floor.

Women lose by 39 to SIU on Sunday. Has to be one of the worst weekends in UE history for Men/Women b-ball combined. Navaeh had a great game with 22pts, 7rebs and 2 blks. Maggie struggle from the floor but pulled down 10 boards (4 offensive.) Results are not good, but I feel these girls put it all out on the court. They simply struggle shooting the ball and commit too many turnovers.
I think for this weekend we should do only one combined thread for the UIC and Valpo games.

BTW does anyone know what happened to our Aussie players? I thought they were the front end of our team rebuild and added to the three I mentioned would put a tougher team on the floor. Ok, I took the bait and perused our roster from the past few years and came up with Kodie Myska and Elly Morgan as our Aussie players. They both were sophomores last year and spent 2 years with us, but then decided to go back to Australia and play with their former team, the Dandenong Rangers. Links provided show Kodie plays very little and Elly getting some decent playing time back in Australia. At UE, Kodie was a bench warmer, but Elly averaged about 20 mpg & 4ppg.
There was another Aussie player announced last year as a signee, but for unknown reasons to me that never materialized.
In looking up this info, noticed we had another signee last year, Kiki Smith out of Topeka, KS that never showed up on the roster. Anyone know what happened with her? Google search only shows her HS info and signing with Evansville, but that is about it (there is a Kiki Smith at U of Florida, but a different person.)

Thanks for the research 65pointgame on the Aussies. I guess this can be expected with the number of offers made each year. Some make it, some don’t stay long and some never get here.
I don’t know the turnover rate of other Valley women’s teams but I do notice that those ahead of us in the standings have more quality players than we do including bench strength. Hopefully our recruiting will build stronger teams and we can begin competing for the top spots.

Until we get the women's team out of Meeks we won't get or retain high level talent
