We are not a school of 25 to35 thousand students that can support a on campus facility. For what UE pays the city to rent the Ford Center per game is definitely cheaper than building and maintaining a on campus facility Neither is Belmont or Valpo. They seem to be doing ok with on campus arenas instead of having to rent someplace. I just don’t like the fact (and it is a fact) that UE is considered the red headed step child by Venuworks, and is treated accordingly. Build the arena. Maintenance is a drop compared to paying thousands of dollars per game to have no control over the logistics. Not to mention, all the teams can practice on the actual court that they play on instead of having to “get permission”

Not to mention, all the teams can practice on the actual court that they play on instead of having to “get permission” Well, I would leave Valpo off any discussion about on-campus, most Indiana high schools have better gyms than the ARC. I agree that on the women's side, Meeks is bottom barrel for the league. It needs to be addressed, even if it is a "we will address this when our men's team is where we need it to be" type of statement. A rising tide lifts all boats and it is no coincidence that the last time the men made the NCAA, the women did as well. Even with Meeks, if RSW is the coach we believe her to be and the men's team is successful, I feel we can field a very competitive women's program. The reality for an on-campus arena for all indoor sports is simply not there. The logistics of building anything the size we would want with our support is not there, and I am not talking about the money required. There is no where you could put this that would accommodate that type of attendance. You would probably have to acquire and level everything between Walnut and the Lloyd up to Willow Road. We all agree the issue isn't so much with the Ford, rather Venuworks. There is no question they crap on us in regards to dates and any flexibility with our non-revenue teams. Seems to me the simplest and most practical solution would be to get rid of VW and get a more favorable arena manager in there. We could possibly get more women's games down there with a little support on their end. I am concerned that this will not get any better with the administration change in city government. This is not a political statement and doesn't need to turn into one. Simply put, Mayor Winnecke is a long-time season ticket holder and visible Aces fan. I don't believe Stephanie Terry has the same investment in our program. If we get crapped on with a season-ticket holder in the mayor's office, I don't expect any better treatment when the new one isn't.
