Rinse and repeat..with about 5 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, SEMO has doubled up the Lady Aces 30-15.

Can't hit the broad side of the barn and a total lack of energy and focus (oh shite, did I really just say that 🤣). Getting beat to all the loose balls and rebounds.

There seems to be a problem with the women’s program.

There seems to be a problem with the women’s program. Not yet, necessarily. I keep repeating this, but they are a young team. Maggie Hartwig impresses me as an Abby Feit type player. She'll be a force soon. Naveah is wearing a boot right now and she's been impressive in her short tenure. They've got pieces and need a few more. Guard play has not been good. KMS tries to do too much and has a lot of improving left to make.

They lost a lot from last year. Thomas looked to be their hope for being competitive. With her injured, the talent just doesn't seem to be there. From the couple of home games I've been to the effort was strong. Today's result looks bad given that the teams had comparable records but it does look like SEMO has played a tough schedule.

I watched the game tonight and it looked like SEMO brought their A game and UE just couldn’t get a shot to drop. Even good FT shooters were missing.
I think missing Abby has hurt a lot. Even if she was having an off night she made the rest of the team better. We don’t have that player now. Hartwig and Thomas will fill that spot but need help.
I watch all their games and have been trying to decide where their biggest problem is and I think Stennis has hit the mark. In recent years they have had much stronger guards. Ones who could make that outside shot and drive or kick out when needed. They got to the foul line a lot and made a high percentage of them.
This year their guard play is weak. KMS can fill that hole but as you said she often tries to do too much. Obviously the coaches have identified the need for stronger guards and recruited this fall to plug that hole. Only time will tell how successful they were. Who they sign in the Spring will be the difference maker.
Next year they are going to be weak in the middle especially against the Valley teams. I can’t remember the November recruits but it seems that one of them was a big center. What we don’t need is a missing #5 and use our power forwards to fill that hole. We saw what happened on the men’s team.
I remain optimistic that next year the Aces will get back on track and win those close games and put the look of fear in the strong teams.

Time for the women’s side is running short. RSW will have to turn this around now, and no excuses are valid with the turn around happening on the men’s side.

May of posted this before, but I know there have been 5 losses where we had the lead or within a bucket during the 4th qtr. An Abby Feit type player may of changed the result of those games. I agree with Stennism on this and feel we need to give this another year to play out.
Portal players panned out fairly well for RSW last year, unfortunately not so much this year. There will be a lot riding on our signed recruits and the promise they show (or lack of) may determine the fate of RSW. As with Rags last year, the skill of the players can make a decent offensive scheme look suspect.

Recruiting at the mid-major level is a lot like reaching into the bag and seeing if it's candy or a lump of putty. They don't have the recruiting/travel budget and it's harder to evaluate 6-foot-tall girls who are playing easily against lesser talent in high school. The competition for these players is intense. To that end, a coaching staff has to have equal parts good luck and good team players. Watching this Aces team, individually they are all pretty decent players for this level of competition. It's in the coaching at this point and it appears RSW wants to play a game her players haven't yet learned. UE is still quite far from being a destination for competitive women. That area is still Iowa.

Very good points ATP-- I am a little better at evaluating the talent of players vs evaluating coaching skills. Really hope things turn out for Coach RSW, because on a personal level she is a great person and a positive influence on the kids.

We've talked about facilities on the men's side but not necessarily the women's. Playing in Meeks is recruiting with both hands bound behind our back and gagged. Great talent, think the equivalent of CB3, won't come here to play in an elementary school gym. We'll not likely draw more than 800 - 1200 with the status quo. The volleyball program will also begin to suffer. Tear down the east half of the old Carson Center. Use that land and the old tennis court land for a better arena for the ladies programs and maybe even swimming and diving.

We are not a school of 25 to35 thousand students that can support a on campus facility. For what UE pays the city to rent the Ford Center per game is definitely cheaper than building and maintaining a on campus facility

For what UE pays the city to rent the Ford Center per game is definitely cheaper than building and maintaining a on campus facility I'm talking just for the women's sports (basketball and volleyball) and maybe adding the swimming and diving teams. That is probably the only way they can hope to break even financially. I believe both programs can be successful on the court and do reasonably well financially with a facility like USI built. You can put the administrative, operations, ticketing and support teams in there as well. The men's team stays at the Ford Center.
