After watching the game again, I tell you who doesn’t fill the stat sheet but helps us defensively and feels like he is very effective in backing down his defender, that is Tanner Cuff. I like what he brings and seems very unselfish.

I like what he brings and seems very unselfish. Very unselfish and seems like a great playmaker. His assist to Hughes when driving in the lane in the first half of the game was awesome. If his offensive game develops more, he’s going to be a problem in the MVC one day.

I'm late to the party - been a busy weekend. Great win and great effort by the players Saturday in front of a good crowd! Hopefully we can continue to build on the momentum heading into the tournament.
Most everyone has hit on all the things I saw - great effort from the new guys and really great game from Kenny. I think that was one of his best performances as an Ace honestly. Love what we are getting from our big guys and Cuff. Very encouraging so far - hopefully they keep doing what the coaches are telling them and playing with this level of intensity because the way we are playing should translate well to playing on the road and in MVC play.

Cuff is very impressive.

To be honest I’m cautiously optimistic because of the last several years, but man so much to be excited about. I was somewhat excited during Walter’s beginning, but this group has a completely different feel. No attitudes or head cases and they love to get after it on the defensive end. Most can shoot free throws, they understand their roles and Hughes and Bailey are unbelievable freshmen recruits. Hoping they stay healthy and continue you to work, but I believe this group can take us back to the top of the MVC. Go Aces!

I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself… but as others have said, defense travels and I think the way this team plays should bode very well for us to be a quality road team finally. We’ll see how UTC and Missouri State go, but my expectations are sky high for this team and I expect them to still be that way when the team gets back for the UNI home game, even if we suffer some losses. Hope we can keep reeling off wins though and give them 6,000+ for UNI. I think our game plan from last year should be even more effective with this years roster and we can beat UNI at home.

My nephew got married on Saturday so I missed the game. Right before the wedding started I checked the score and we were up 30-27 at the half, then an hour later after Mass, opened up the game log (thinking maybe we had one of our patented scoreless streaks in the 2nd half), but saw we had just won 74-50. Wow - what a great feeling that was -- and Ball St was the one that had the 8 minute drought. Needless to say, another reason the wedding reception was a good one for me.
I did give my tickets away to a guy that has not been to an Aces game in a long time -- I saw him on Sunday and he was ecstatic about the game, commenting about how "together" the guys played. I am guessing this won't be his last UE game this year!

UE is one of them! ... and, as of this afternoon, IU is now off this list.
Hopefully we’re still on that list after the next two games.

This makes me wonder - surely there were a couple of players or more in earlier years who redshirted (either sat out the year or medical redshirt) and were with the team for five years, but none are coming to mind immediately. Can anyone think of other players with the team for 5 years? I think Evan and Noah might be the only players that were here for five years in the last ten years and obviously that was due to the Covid year. Seems like Rokas C was here for five years but he didn't play after he got hurt and might have dropped off the team, not sure. Ryan Sawvell was in college for six years (three at UE and three at Wofford with one of those being a transfer year), so that probably doesn't meet the criteria either since he transferred out. Eric Ottens was here for five years if you go back to 2001-2006. Eric is the only one I can think of this century that meets the criteria of being at UE five years (other than Noah and Evan). Of course, in the old days, you had five years to play four. Only those players who were granted a free Covid year could play for five years. Anyone else could be on the roster for as many as 6 years but they could only play in four of them. Even that is a small list. The days of watching a freshman in purple all the way to graduation have become rare. It is more likely to be a walk-on who has fewer options to move on and up. There may be more incentive to remain an Ace for a full four years if the team becomes a perennial winner.

Part of the problem is that some of the players who joined the program were either academically challenged, often injured, uninspired or just dead weight. I can't think of 5 players who voluntarily left the program post-McCarty who would have made it better had they stayed, though I admit -- that is not quantifiable.

Does copying and pasting a link prove you're not a troll? Congratulations on finally making a post that doesn't slam Bobe though. For you, that's an accomplishment.
