This thread will be uneven and scattered but I found a place to start for the baseball program. * Chance Bentley of Connersville has been chosen by coaches from the IHSBCA to join Indiana's All-Star team! He'll compete at Loeb Stadium in Lafayette, June 24-25. (South roster included below.) Bentley is playing at the 3A level at Connersville, which won a sectional this year. He will be at UE this fall as a freshman.

Checking in on some summer league action and it's thumbs up for Aces. Brendan Hord, who lost his catching job last spring, apparently aims to get it back. He's been bopping Northwoods pitching and has 8 homers and 40 ribbies as of 7/12. Hitting around .280. He and Kip Fouggerouse are playing for Mankato. Fouggerouse is having a great summer as well, up around .320. He is playing 3rd base this summer. Ty Rumsey is also playing for Mankato. Hord honored for his game on July 11. News release here. northwoodsleague.com/blog/2023/07/11/brendan-hord-led-mankatos-offense-with-two-home-runs-and-seven-rbi/The other 3rd baseman, Brett Widder, is in the .290s playing for Wausau. Shallenberger just joined that team a couple of weeks ago and is hitting over .400 with 3 dingers. These leagues can be pretty uneven but all of them are competitive. The Northwoods has 24 franchises from Kalamazoo west to Minot. The only Indiana team in the NWL is in Kokomo.

Seems as though Shallenberger is fully recovered from his injury. Pom Pom Mom must be happy!

Checking in again on our summer league players, mainly Rumsey, Widder, Fougerrouse and Shallenberger. All of them are still hitting. Shally moved to Wausau in the Northwoods after starting the summer in the Cape Cod League. He is hitting .326.
Foug (.315) and Rumsey (.280) are playing for Mankato, as is Brendan Hord -- DH and C. So, that might be a benefit, since they all obviously like each other enough to spend summers in the same town.
Several other Aces are playing in other leagues. Most of those guys will be trying for PT next spring.
GopurpleAces.com has had an update on these guys but not in the last 3 weeks. Some of the NWL games are on ESPN+, and from day to day, it's different teams.
Not many Valley players were drafted, and some of them didn't announce that they were eligible. The top player picked was Matt Jachec of Sicky State, and he signed with the Guardians. Most top MVC players are still underclassmen, which brightens the future of the conference and elevates it slightly.
