Big series starting Friday for the Purple Gang against the Peoria Pabsts. Opener is at 6 p.m. at German Chocolate Field. ESPN+ if you are so inclined to watch games. Here is the balance of the Valley slate.
Valparaiso @ Belmont 1:00 PM
UIC @ Illinois State 5:00 PM
Murray State @ Indiana State 5:30 PM
Missouri State @ Southern Illinois 6:00 PM
Things don't look rosy for the Peorias with a 5-16 conference record. They are probably going to finish 9th at best, which makes them dangerous. Junior OF Ryan Vogel has a .999 OPS, so he's their primary offensive threat. C Logan Delagado OPS'ing at .944. Connor O'Brien (10 HR) is a power threat.
I can't pin down a starting rotation other than Jacob Kisting, righty with a 5.7 ERA. WHiP of 1.59, which isn't stellar. Travis Lutz has some starts but he doesn't appear to be a regular rotation guy.
Nick Smith has been the Friday starter for UE. I assume that hasn't changed.

Thunderstorms and rain may be the starting pitchers.

Somewhat bizarre game. Bradley's Kisling is a real good pitcher who doesn't always pitch well. Foug and Widder bashing. Bradley might have been banished to the cellar with Bellmont with this one. Stats for those not confined to the psycho ward. gopurpleaces.com/sidearmstats/baseball/summary

Speaking of "bashing" (which used to be the only thing to do in TH on WaBASH Ave.)...Racer's chased ISU's #1 Jachec early while hitting 4 HR's. gosycamores.com/sports/baseball/stats/2023/murray-state/boxscore/15951Meanwhile, over in Carbondink, Mo St took advantage of SIU sloppy (CF/RF) fielding in securing 2nd place in the MVC, 8-5. Curious to any who have PERSONALLY been to SIU's relatively new field, how's the lighting? Seemed like OFers were sometimes having problems picking up the flight path off the bat.

That game gave me whiplash. The Aces with 9 timely extra base hits out of 12. The miscommunication on a fly ball to shallow right center was a heartbreaker at the time but Purple didn't quit. A win is a win.

I did watch the streams from SIU and there were several plays where the fielders lost the ball when it got above the lights. It was noticeable more than once.

If you are not confined to a strait jacket or restrained by people in white coats, today in real baseball, our beloved Aces take on the stumbling and misguided Peoria Pacifiers in a 2 p.m. game at German Chocolate diamond at Braun and Purple field somewhere near where we used to go turfin' with Phi Mu's back in the day. (A few Phi Mu's would go out with GDI's ... I ain't sayin' more than that.)
ESPN3 if you are shut in or being confined to a padded room.
So here's where you wanna look for fun:
UIC @ Abnormal College 1 p.m. (We want the Redbirds to win this one) Murray @ Sick City 1 p.m. (A Tree win is helpful) Missouri State @ Fleabag, Egypt 2 p.m. (UE could catch the Skinny Dogs this weekend) Valpo at the Nashville Cats 2 p.m. (Bookies are mixed on this one).
Evansville improves to 30-19 and 12-10 in the MVC. Evansville has now clinched a spot in the MVC Tournament. Pitchers have not been named. One assumes Donovan Schultz, a lefty who reminds me of Koufax or Big Unit, is on the hill for the Purple People.
Bradley has a whole raft of guys who have had starts and their website isn't saying.

SIU HC Lance Rhodes threw that game away v. Mo St, having a 5-1 lead going into the 9th inning. Itchy Jones would be going nuts in this extra-inning 6-5 loss for the Pups...now we know why their stadium only seats 211 (give or take a few stray cats).

Aces played the worst game of the year today. At least 3 tootblans, walking the bases loaded, throwing bunts into right field, oversliding the base ... at least 9 walks.

Sloppy base running in the 1st inning hurting UE today. Umpire could of cost us a run too-- I thought the homer was fair.

Is our #1 picture Smith out with a injury again. He threw 93 pitches in 5 1/3 innings Friday. I didn’t see the game but what makes you think he is injured? Did he leave the game because of injury?

Rubdown game today against a Bradley team that deceptively was terrible until around 9 p.m. Friday when the Peoria Plastering Union decided to compete for 8th place in the Valley.
At 1 p.m. today at German Potato Salad Bowl, the Purple Plaster Punishers will drub down on the Peorians in a game that will be far more important to Bradley than it will be to Spokane. The Aces also need this win.
This is the last home game of the season and leads into what has suddenly become a quite interesting series at UIC next week. Those guys -- out of nowhere.
Anyhow, no idea who pitches today -- Allstaff is probably the byword.
Snipped from the UE website, this copyright infringement.
Bradley improves to 15-29 overall and 6-17 in the MVC, while Evansville falls to 30-20 overall and 12-11 in the MVC. "Senior Day" for UE. The Aces will honor Jarrett Blunt, Tyler Denu, John MacCauley, Michael Parks, Danny Borgstrom, Eric Roberts and Max Malley. Sunday's game can be seen live on ESPN+ and on 107.1 FM-WJPS.
UE can still catch the Egyptian Mange for 3rd place.

It was the hottest and most humid day of the year. Wearing wool was probably not the best idea. It is strange that it was only hot and humid in one dugout.
