I still standby previous statements that no serious coach or players are reading this board, and if they are, it’s just to laugh at how ridiculous we are I would hope. I can tell you we have several past and present parents and players who have registered for accounts. A few actually participate. I won't doxx any of them, but I would have to think curiosity if nothing else would drive them to take a look.

I think we should keep in mind when we comment that these statements are available to anyone who has been admitted to this board. Would you make your comments in person directly to the individual if your comment is negative?
We should also remember that these are just college kids and/or their parents who were in one way or another connected to UE basketball. I have been guilty of being critical of a player I didn’t think was up to Valley standards. However, I was wrong and his willingness to work hard and believe in himself he will soon be in his 5th year on the team. For that he should be commended. He has been a leader in his own way.
In summary I am really looking forward to this season beginning and all of the team playing in some capacity from the starters to the preferred walk-ons. Let’s not forget the coaching staff. I go back to the 50s and I believe this is the best compliment of staff we have ever had.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything Aceshigh stated. The negativism on this forum needs to stop. IMHO the negative posts are meant to antagonize and hearing oneself talk. I am looking forward to the season and I think we will be pleasantly surprised by the change in this team. GO ACES!!

It's a fan forum and nobody can change that. It's not like fans have an official outlet for expressing approval or dismay over a team finishing last in the conference virtually every year. I think, all in all, the input here has been nothing but supportive of the coach, his staff and the athletics department at UE.
If a player or coach or parent reads this board and isn't aware that it's an board of anonymous FANS who don't get to go to the press conferences or attend post-game locker room sermons, well ... bully for them! This is a fan hangout and I am hard-pressed to support any idea that lets a coach or a player take that away from us. It's all we have. If we are afraid that we will offend somebody, I mean ... tough. Maybe they can start their own forum and talk about the fans.
I am intent on at least attempting to be kinder in my comments towards others in the future. Ain't enough time left on this planet to be carrying grudges and putting comments on the "ignore" button.

Hell freezes over. I agree 100 percent. This board should be about free expression. If you are too sensitive and get your feelings hurt by some pretty tame posts, then maybe you should go join a prayer group instead. This board is unbelievably tame compared to most others. 🤦♂️

what happened to his commitment to Robert Morris? From D1 to NAIA/NCCAA. At least he's playing in his own backyard.

Guessing he decided it’s better to play close to home and play a major role That's my guess Larry. I am pretty sure he graduated early this spring from UE. He is gifted as a player and academically. He is probably focused at this point on his life after basketball. Finish out your playing career in front of friends and family while persuing your future academically. Wish him the absolute best.

First of all, Preston is a super kid and I hated to see him go.
I’m 99.9% certain this move was to be closer to family and possibly to even go to school with his younger brother.
Not sure most people realize but Preston just finished his undergraduate degree in the first summer session. He was only at UE for two years. He did have some college credits from prep school but still quite a feat. Not many players can juggle the rigors of being a D1 athlete and school and graduate that quickly.
Too bad he was thrown into the fire his freshman year (as the team needed him badly) as the plan was to redshirt him and give him time to develop. He was a total class act and sacrificed for this team greatly as he was asked to play the 5 and not play to his strengths. He essentially was a point forward who could dribble, rebound, pass and play defense extremely well. Obviously his offensive game was improving but was taking time to develop. He was certainly capable offensively. And to think this year he will still really be a “true junior” but playing as a grad transfer.
I expect him to do very well this year, especially at the NAIA level. He still is playing against guys 1-2 years older than him even in what could be his last year at the college level.

Thanks for adding this. It is easy for us to lose sight that these are individual young men and all have their own story. We tend to break things down to simply in terms of good or bad or can easily get caught up in making negative comments about young people and their decisions that they feel best are for them. We also tend to make broad assumptions on why every individual leaves or if they were forced to leave. Doubt any of us know all or most of the facts. Nice to see some positive comments and I would like to make sure I make more positive than negative myself going forward.

I'm not sure but what the Preston Phillips "model" isn't maybe the best way for a lot of players to go -- get the degree, play some ball, get into the Portal and look around, and land at a competitive NAIA program where playing basketball is fun again. There are still educational opportunities for grad transfers who maybe want to learn about ancient Greece or take a class in philosophy or astronomy. I have no idea if Bethel has a good/bad/ordinary curriculum, but they do have a team that competes in a solid conference.

I still think that Preston can develop into a very good player. I predicted last off-season that he would have a breakout year and average 15 pts a game. I was of course proven wrong. He showed flashes of brilliance at times but too often tentative and seemed to lack the confidence to take more chances on the court. I think he is a great example of what I remember Coach Crews saying about multiple players through his tenure....."he doesn't realize how good he can be." With his skills and less pressure, he should blossom at Bethel perhaps into a dominating force. He's got the size, body, moves well, nice form on his shot, good ball handler, court vision/ passer. I will be interested in following his progress. What a fine young man who has a great future ahead of him.
