Three-game series continues at noon CDT with our two lefties -- Schultz and Denu -- on the rubber for the Aces.
Murray is probably plotting a Jobu ceremony after yesterday's teeth-extraction-without-whiskey loss.
The details, per gopurpleaces.com
Junior LHP Donovan Schultz (4-2, 3.56 ERA) and senior LHP Tyler Denu (2-2, 4.35 ERA) will start. Live on ESPN+ and heard live in the Tri-State area on 107.1 FM-WJPS and the Old National Bank/Purple Aces Sports Network from Learfield.
Unlike the minors, these are not 7-inning games, even though the schedule was rubbed out on Friday, forcing this twin-bill to happen. (Scheduled as 9 originally, so played as 9 when it happens. **Not sure if NCAA even HAS a 7-inning game.**)
For Murray, Valero and Vernon appear to be the other two-thirds of the Racehorse pitching staff. Both are righties. Valero averages about 1 strikeout per inning, decent WHiP for college ball.
Vernon doesn't have great numbers. We should get into their pen fairly early. Ethan Lyke is a pitcher we will also likely see.
As an aside, UE's Braun Stadium is still a mile better than almost all the other Valley venues and a real upgrade over Reagan Field.
**
Up North, the Sickos and the Fleabags will be grappling for leadership in the Valley. The Treestumps won on Saturday with a walkoff. SIU was the pre-season favorite, so this is a predictably good matchup.
Mo. State, in pounding down three times on hard-luck Belmont, stands in 3rd place. Bears vs. Bruins, always a teddy-bear event.
The not-Larry Bird S'mores come to UE next weekend.
From the Terre Haute Propaganda Network:
... Most recently, the Sycamores topped No. 4 Vanderbilt at Hawkins Field on Tuesday night, 10-2, to extend one of the nation's longest current winning streaks heading into the weekend. (UE lost there back in Feb. in a 17-inning game, 2-1.)
ISU's 11-game stretch is the second-longest in the Mitch Hannahs coaching era sitting one game behind a 12-game streak set back in the 2014 season. The streak is just the 17th time in program history Indiana State has won double-digit games in a row dating back to 1923-24.
Indiana State entered the week sitting No. 22 in the Collegiate Baseball Division I poll and is receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll for the second consecutive week.
