Seriously a problem -- 56-18 halftime. Tomancova wide open layup hits the bottom of the rim. This team should have forfeited and saved on the hot water.

Merciful end to our UE winter sports. Honestly, I had more fun when I was in the hospital for 8 days recovering from an infection.

Maybe they should have invoked the Lickliter strategy to reduce the number of possessions in a game. The consistent 1st quarter blowouts gives me cause for concern. I could grab several high school coaches here in town and do a better job in coaching to keep the game respectable in the 1st quarter.

I am a season ticket holder for both men and women and on the women’s side of things the first 2/3 of the season it was fun because you got to watch competitive games that were played with passion. Something happened for the last 1/3 because the passion disappeared. It seemed that we had been thoroughly scouted which showed that we really could not make adjustments on offense - only certain set plays and that our defense was very porous with no apparent ability to switch and really play in your face. Hmm this sounds vaguely familiar to the men’s team. I know we are losing several players who got a high percentage of playing time so next year is looking rather ominous. I have been impressed with Coach Wells but am certainly hoping she has more tricks up her sleeve to correct the offensive and defensive deficiencies we exhibited over the last part of the season.

I am torn from going back to watch this and see what the heck happened, or just forgetting all about it until fall.
Injuries play a factor, but in less than a week, they gave a winless conference team their first win and got completely boatraced by sub-500 team. Losing Anna Newman, Myia Clark and potentially Abby, I have little faith all these recruits are going to replace those shoes.

Going to move on till the Fall and with the hopes of seeing 1-2 portal players signed later this Spring. I have high expectations for the 2 high school kids coming in from Wisconsin. I believe both of them are 6'3" and averaged over 10 boards a game.
On a side note, I see women's soccer added 2 new recruits and there was a big Track and Field class announced yesterday. In addition, our swimmers appear to be doing fairly well at the recent meets.

Did the woman's team have some major injuries the last week or so to have this obvious meltdown.

We just sent the wrong team to the Q-C.

I think the ladies also just "ran into a wall" with the short rotations resulting from this. Their shooting was horrible the last few games.

So what happened in the first half? That is obviously where the game was decided when you are already down 38 at the half.
We split with Murray State during the regular season- winning by eight at home and losing by 20 on the road. Then yesterday we are down 38 at the half to the same team. Getting beat in a 8/9 game by 42 points is alarming to say the least.
Is this recent downturn primarily because coming into the tournament game they had at least one starter missing in each of the past 10 games? Is their depth that thin when they are missing one player (a game)?
We had been making great strides till the last eleven games. For those that follow the women’s program closely, do you think this is a temporary bump in the road and we will recover and continue the upward trajectory of the program. Or have we hit a wall and can expect the we will stay the same or worse in the win column moving forward?
On the surface it appears that we need more depth for one. Is there coaching concerns or does this primarily have to do with injuries?

I watched most of their games and after Feb., it was clear this team had run out of gas. In the Bradley game, KMS was literally hit in the face with a common rotation pass. Boink! DuPont and Hudson were flat-footed on the offensive boards, and their shots were barely hitting iron from 6 feet out. Shots, if that is what they were, didn't even get high enough to clear the rim. Feit was burned out and probably not well. Dunno ... when you turn your game over to players who aren't leaders, you get this. Losing as badly as they did, going into the Bradley game, all Bradley had to do was play to its normal pathetic level, get a couple of 20-footers to fall ... that was that. Murray was literally uncontested on Thursday for about half its shots the first 20 minutes. No idea how this happens or how often in mid-range women's ball. RSW runs a high-energy offense and it is sometimes easy for that to derail. Turnovers and charging fouls. None of that has been the case this month. The traps on defense were, at best, a shadow of the plan. Slow players were beating them to the spots. It's easy to tell when a team is out of steam -- free throws don't just miss, they clank and carom away.
The fix is maybe something that has nothing to do with the players or the coaches. It isn't quantifiable, but this team was wet bread after the middle of February. That probably weighed on their morale. Losing Newman hurt them a little, losing Clark hurt them and Feit wasn't healthy. Tomancova looked like she had her own case of Tired Blood.

My opinion on the situation. Again the injuries and illnesses played a role in the late season collapse. Myia Clark basically disappeared after her bout with COVID. We definitely need more depth. I believe the bigs on the roster have very expoitable weaknesses and it showed all season. They were also very foul prone. We do have one big that medical red-shirted this season so I don't have a feel for her abilities. It also seemed to me that our basketball IQ wasn't very high at times. My biggest pet peeve was driving the lane into a crowd of bigs then throwing up some kind of wild shot. Multiple players were guilty of this. A 10 foot jump shot in the lane is better than a flailing layup attempt that usually gets blocked.
I do hope Abby comes back next year as her scoring and leadership will be needed. It could be a long season if she doesn't. Kynidi Mason-Striverson will adequately fill the PG slot. I think Elly Morgan can fill some of the scoring gap, she's a nice player imo. Dupont and Tomaczova (aka B) are okay in the post but I wish we had someone that could jump like Feliciano and Cardona from the volleyball team. The freshmen have to come in and contribute.
There is not a coaching problem in my opinion. We've gone from 6 total wins in Ruffings last season, to 8, and now 11. Better finishes in the MVC standings. The program is trending in the right direction. We need to get them out of Meeks into an arena where recruits will want to play. North High School's gym is nicer than Meeks. I still think building a 4K seat on campus arena for womens basketball and volleyball would be a smart investment. It elevates both programs and we could be the site for the MVC volleyball tournament for many years to come. Having said that, there are lots of higher priority issues for the administration, but we can dream.

I really don't put too much on a coach in the first 2 years. My only caveat to that statement is getting blown out in the 1st quarter for a majority of the last dozen games has to fall on the coaching. If the team is running on empty, don't run the initial defensive pressure in the backcourt, slow the game down a bit and maybe throw in a zone here and there. I agree a lot with the comments from Stennism and Spartacus. As for the gym, I know there is some sort of plan for Carson/Meeks once the new student wellness center is built, but not sure what the entails. As for a 4k size arena, I don't see that happening. Maybe a 2k arena or go up to 6-7k and bring in the men's program too.
As I have previously stated, really hope the 2 recruits coming from Wisconsin high schools pan out. I don't see Barbora or Celine as being starters for a team that will compete in top tier of the MVC. And I have no idea of the capability of redshirt Freshman Irene Pacios...hopefully the ceiling is high for her.
