As a kid I loved the Great Scot chocolate chip cookies. And it does seem like the long johns were good too. And don't get me started on the Burger Farm next door. Vann & Covert. I'm hungry now... The chocolate chip cookies were very good, but I really loved the twisted glazed ones, especially if they were still warm. I was just talking about Big Silos today.

I worked at Burger Farm on Diamond Avenue. Around 1978-79, they replaced the sign board with a fancy electrified sign and threw out the hand painted Big Silo and Tuesday Night Chicken Dinner signs. I thought they were too cool to send to the landfill so I threw them in the back of my Chevette and rescued them. I have the Big Silo sign on the wall in the basement family room 40+ years later.

Wasn't the Big Silo served in that little carboard cylinder?

Thanks for sharing the big silo! I fell in love with the peppery breaded, heat lamp dehydrated cellophane wrapped chicken quarters. Lived within walking distance of the one on North Weinbach. Went there way too often..

My two cents. I do not like the Ford Center intro mention of the Ace's plane crash. That was a dark moment in our history. It made me ill and I will never forget that day or where I was when I heard the news. I have the Forget-Me-Not placemat of the roster hanging on my wall. I appreciate the campus commemoration of the tragedy and a yearly moment of silence at the Ford Center each December. But. The intro should be 100% positive and thrill-packed. There is a place for sadness and reflection. This season has brought joy that we haven't seen much of in 20+ years. Let us seize that moment. The plane crash should not be part of marketing.
I do respect differing opinions. Everyone should be able to manage their grief in their own way and time. Maybe you need a constant reminder, but the plane crash is not what has made the Purple Aces special to me. As I said, my two cents.

I love the longer retrospective Aces history video played in the minutes leading up to the game. Would actually like to see a couple more highlights of the 77 team besides the one quick layup they show. But having the replay of Mike Blake from that night and Wallace Graves speech excerpt comes on awfully strong. Maybe a few silent clips relating to it.. the weeping basketball, sweep of folks at the memorial service. A little more subtle. But still acknowledged. My brother and I were fans at the time, might refer to it but never talk about it. He was in town to keep his 50 plus year streak of seeing a game alive and had an uncomfortable reaction. Small kids in attendance might be confused by it. That's my two cents....

Hard situation to appease everyone imo. If they made an introduction about the history of Aces basketball and only hit on the high points, there would without a doubt be complaints they did not acknowledge the plane crash. You can’t tell the full story of Aces Basketball without acknowledging the plane crash, and I think showing the grief of that moment and that we were able to overcome that and reach new heights in D1 so quickly is a big part of what makes our program history so special.
I also wasn’t alive when the plane crash happened, so I can’t relate to the memories and grief associated with the event. I couldn’t imagine that happening today and what my reaction to it would be, but in my opinion, it would be a disservice to the programs history to not acknowledge it in a video about the history of the Aces Basketball. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though, and I don’t think there is a wrong reaction to the video.

I was alive, and it was awful. I personally think the team should always be memorialized. I haven't been to a game this season. Haven't seen this video, but I imagine it to be appropriate.

Wasn't the Big Silo served in that little carboard cylinder? I had forgotten about that. Yep, kind of a thin card stock cylinder around it and the whole thing covered with plastic wrap. I hadn’t thought about that in many years.

Small kids in attendance might be confused by it. That's my two cents.... Those are excellent points. If they must do it, a gentler approach would be more palatable. It feels like a gut punch each time and I am considering timing my entry to miss it at the expense of not seeing warmups. I didn't even think about the kids but that is also an important consideration. Btw, that's pretty cool of your brother to keep that streak alive. I'm also jealous. I had to miss a few years while I was serving in the military and that was before ESPN+ and before streaming made the world smaller. Now I can see all the home games twice. Life is good.

We only have a few more months of you reminding us that you haven't been to a game this season. Thank you for not continuing to remind us why. It appears that with each win attendance is growing. There is talk of opening the upper bowl when conference play begins in earnest. Your boycott has been largely meaningless, although I realize that the ruse is important to you. I have no idea why.

I was alive and in the service at the time. I remember picking up a paper at the NCO club and reading about a crash. Saw it was in Evansville and then kept reading and found out it was the ACES. Was in shock and tore the paper up and left. Lot of people were wondering what the heck was going on.
