All of you in my age group especially should appreciate their rendition of the Cure's hit Just Like Heaven from the 80's. Talk about taking a song and making it your own. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZbmEskxjNEI like that! Thanks for sharing. You got me to check out their music. They also have a catchy tune (as us old folk say) released this year called 'Two Timin'. Looks like they do some live shows on bills with other bands. Bring 'em to The Victory for a concert. Do a slow version of the UE fight song and there won't be a dry eye in the house.

On that December night I was shopping at Great Scot ( I believe that was the store - it was on Green River and Washington) when it came on over the store's PA announcement that the plane carrying the ACES had crashed. The store fell into solemn quiet with little groups of people in hushed shock - truly was a night of grief and dis-belief for what had happened to OUR ACES. I will forever remember that horrible night and the loss of life for so many young men, community members, coaches. Their loved ones bore such a loss that will never end. So sad. Good to hear from you sect3purple....Great Scot was in this location and also near Green River and Lloyd, just north of where Donut Bank is now in the strip mall if I am not mistaken. The one thing I remember most about Great Scot other than my high school buddies who worked there was how good the filled long johns were. They were the best !

Yes, you are correct about the "best filled long johns" to be found anywhere. My husband's brother, who lived in San Diego, would always take a big box of a dozen filled long johns on the plane with him when he returned home to CA after his Evansville visit.

Why is there not some type of Memorial or marking on the spot where the plane crashed. This area is visible and easy to get to since there is a road there.Yes it might not be the exa6spot but if would be close.

Not having lived in Evansville for many years, I did not know there was a road that went near the site of the crash. I'll be back in town after Christmas and I'll be sure to drive through there.

So there is a big Berry plastics warehouse if you are coming from the South I believe the crash happened somewhere in about the middle of where the warehouse is along the fence line that fence was not there years ago it was just an empty field

I really believe in looking at google earth that the impact was near the road, maybe just north of it, and I do remember it being directly in line with Ward Road. I think it was the 30 year mark, before the road was there, I walked from the end of Ward Road, down the winding trails to the tracks. There was not a train coming through but a person came by on a manually operated track cart and the echoing sound in the depressed canyon sounded eerie. Made me think of the descriptions of the sound of the train they brought in after the crash. Made quite an impression on me. anyway, I think this would be a great opportunity for someone to start asking the right people how to get this sign done.

I agree that there should be a memorial or sign at the site (if there is not one already). I never knew you could actually walk to the crash site. As previously mentioned, we used to live literally a mile from the crash site on the other side of Saint George Road. The crash site is on the back side of a subdivision and people's houses, so it might be an odd place to access from; however, when I was up there in September, I was literally a mile from it at my aunt's house. So, I would have made an effort to visit the site if I was aware that was available (even with an extremely full schedule). Not sure when I will be back up there at the moment, but I will definitely keep that in mind the next time. Thanks for sharing, as always.

The Airport Authority would probably have to approve of it since I believe its considered Airport property

As someone else noted, I also thought this was Airport Authority property but evidently not or it was sold to Berry.

Yes, there was a Great Scot at the northeast corner of Green River and the Lloyd but there wasn't one at Green River and Washington. The store in that area was at Covert and Vann. I worked in the bakery at all 4 Great Scot stores while in high school and college during the 1980s.

Great Scot was on the corner of Vann and Covert. I guess Schnucks was open in '77, which would have been on the corner of Washington and Green River. If not, it was still the ABC Store. At that time, I believe the supermarket at the Lloyd (Division) and Green River was still an A&P. I don't think it became a Great Scot until the early 80's.

As a kid I loved the Great Scot chocolate chip cookies. And it does seem like the long johns were good too. And don't get me started on the Burger Farm next door. Vann & Covert. I'm hungry now...
