I don’t understand how this is relevant. College coaches find talent regardless of how tough the completion may be. True that they’ll find talent wherever it’s at, but it would be better for John’s development to play against tougher competition, and he won’t find that at ECS. I’d bet he ends up at Bosse, Harrison, or Memorial if he relocates to Evansville. I could also see him going to a big time prep school like La Lumiere, Link Prep, or Monte Verde too. And for the record, I believe you on Josiah Dunham and don’t think his development is as impacted by playing in 1A. But being 7’2 and being in 1A and the schedule they play, you’re going to be playing much smaller sized rosters and it’s going to be much easier for a skilled big man to dominate without being challenged.

Exactly. John Bol would definitely face better competition for his personal development at a high level prep or high school, but college sports is loaded with top athletes who only played for their local high school. John needs to live and go to school wherever he is happy. Besides you are assuming he is going to play for UE.

Wouldn’t be very competitive games considering they play little sisters of the poor for half their games. This is a ridiculous post. I tend to have some non-popular posts, but sometimes you have to keep people informed 1. Most Evansville schools (Reitz, Memorial, Mater Dei, etc.) claim that they do not have room on their schedule, so how is the schedule supposed to magically improve? 2. The school has 177 students, which ranks 367th out of 405 IHSAA schools with membership. 1A schools play 1A schools. 3. Looking at the schedule: Lanesville, Day School, and Wood Memorial were all bad. I understand that. I personally watched a couple of those games, and they were all blowouts. However, Loogootee, North Daviess, Bloomfield, and even Orleans were all ranked in the top ten in 1A during the season. 4. The North Daviess game was winnable; however, the official called an egregious 5 second call while the ball was in Dunham’s hands with seconds to go in the 4th quarter (tie game). ND ended up winning the 1A tournament. 5. O’Fallon has an enrollment of around 2400 to 2500. Henderson County has 2000 kids. Hopkinsville, Madisonville North Hopkins, Central all around 1000 students. You can’t claim that they didn’t play anyone that has a significant name. 6. Starting in the 2022-2023 season, all sports at ECS are able to compete in the IHSAA tournament. I am confident that the boys basketball team will win the IHSAA tourney in 2023 or 2024. 7. There are rumors that a kid from South Spencer is transferring to ECS, which will easily make them the favorites in 1A. 8. **At least trust me on this, Josiah Dunham would be a great addition to UE’s roster in a few years** He has to be a top priority on Ragland’s mind for the class of 2024. This kid is a natural scorer and playmaker, and he still has 2 years left in HS. He has already scored over 1,000 points, and that’s without the chance to play in the postseason. He comes from an athletic family. Moriah currently plays soccer at Taylor, Elijah is the #26 prospect in the New York Yankees organization, and Isaiah played football at Yale for a few years. This drives him to be successful. He comes in hours before school starts to train in the gym. You can’t teach drive, determination, heart, etc. #7 is 100% not happening. It was in the making but fell through and he will not be going to ECS

It’s a lose-lose. One of the worst teams in SIAC last year, Central, beat ECS by double digits. Wait, I bet you will tell me Dunham was sick that game?😉 IF ECS was to beat any of these Evansville schools it would be posted all over social media to promote the school and possibly entice kids to come to ECS over an EVSC school. EVSC AD’s won’t go for that. Didn’t Memorial play you in the Bosse shootout couple years ago? Lost by 17? Memorial was under 500 that year. So there is no benefit for the Evansville schools to play ECS.

John Bol going to a prep school. I’d say that hurts the chances of him going to UE, but hopefully he’ll still spend the summers in Evansville training with Marcus and gain an affinity for the school.
I’m not giving up hope until Marcus says it won’t happen or he posts a top 5/10 list without us on it.

Is it possible that John Bol might develop an affinity for UE? IMHO, it’s possible, but not highly probable. Sunrise Academy is a development academy where ELITE talent goes so that they can be recruited by Duke, Baylor, Kansas, and Kentucky. That isn’t to say that some of their kids don’t end up at mid-majors, but IMHO, we need to temper our expectations about John coming to UE. Marcus loves UE, but if John wants to be on the fast track to the NBA, Sunrise is a very good way to become positioned. If his development progresses well, he will be highly sought by all the elite schools. With Marcus’s tutelage and John’s size and ability, he’ll be a top 5 recruit and have his choice of any program in the US.

Even before joining Sunrise, John is the ESPN #24 recruit in the 2024 class.

If UE has success in the next couple of years it will probably be a package deal, new assistant and Mr. Bol. going to the same school.

I am taking that as it's going to take some time to wrap up all things relating to where they are living now, and will eventually move here, but it's up to them what they want to do. Probably don't want their kids to have to change schools. I agree. John is also probably in a better basketball situation at Christian Brothers than he would be at any of the schools in Evansville. I’m sure that will factor into the decision as well. Does anybody know the ages of his two other children? I believe our Evansville high school teams are very good.I also believe Bosse would be a excellent choice. They have had the best success for over 15 years so dont think our local teams aren't good enough for john.

Rest assured Marcus and his wife know what is best for Jon athletically and academically and that does not appear to be a local school.

It is a long shot that he comes here, but it isn’t beyond reason until him or Marcus say that UE is no longer under consideration. Hopefully his bond with Marcus will play on our favor, but it will be incredibly hard to compete with the blue bloods. UW Milwaukee won a recruiting battle against Duke for a top 10 player though, so anything is possible.

If John Bol is as good as many in the know say and he wants to fast track to the Pros where he goes to school will not make much difference. Lebron who never went to college is a good example. If John is a diamond in the rough and needs to develop and polish his athletic skills to be a successful Professional then a quality program such as Sunrise Christian does make sense. His academic and personal skills can be accomplished right here in Evansville.
I think Marcus is in a tough predicament with John. As an assistant coach at UE there would be tremendous pressure to convince John to attend UE. This pressure would also affect the other coaching staff including Rags. In addition it could bleed over to the athletes, school administration and even the community. By going to Sunrise much of that pressure will be relieved.
Let’s let John Bol grow up a little, attend high school and have fun like other teenagers including making his choices about attending college to the future. If that choice is UE, terrific, if he goes somewhere else we still have a basketball program to be proud of.
