I have no inside information, and I don't know all the transfer rules, but from what I can tell, I wouldn't assume a player is leaving/wants to leave just because they open back up their recruiting status in this situation.
If I were in the player's shoes, I'd be thinking: "...If I open my recruiting status back up, and another school comes along, I can think about it. If I like the new coach and want to stay ...I can stay. And if no other school comes along ...I can still just stay. So if I open back up, I get new options. And if I don't open back up, I won't get any new options. ...I'll choose 'more options' ...because why would anyone choose 'less options'?"

I venture to say that he may stay the course. I made a tweet telling all the recruits the fan base definitely still wants them. His father liked it.

It’s common to test the waters and see if new coach attempts to recruit you back. It’s a strong signal where you stand before using up a year of eligibility only to be pushed to the portal at the end of the season when new coach brings in “their guys.”

I really like Moncrief, and I also am confident that UE will have a new coach that players will really want to play for. At the same time, Chris is the kind of player that Creighton (if the coach turns out to be Ryan Miller), Butler (Ragland), and others (McCollum) like to recruit because he has size, but is also versatile. Of course, thecoach and players have to mesh, but I think the new, positive environment being championed by Ziggy will be extremely attractive to recruits.

My belief is Chris will take a wait and see approach. Reason why is he hasn't re opened his recruiting.

I agree and my guess is that he liked the school and the environment. Surely it wasn’t for the great coaching and personality that coach Todd brought to the table.

I’m also guessing at this point there’s probably not scholarships left at the other schools that were recruiting him. Since high schoolers have to sign by May 18, there’s definitely some risk there in reopening your recruitment without much time left and with a lot of rosters filled up.

From Chads article on the roster today:
His father wrote the following to the Courier & Press: "WE ARE STILL COMMITTED!! Christopher is still motivated to help bring a championship to UE!! I hope the new head coach and staff accept us!"
Love the enthusiasm regarding the program. Hope this kid excels as a purple Ace!
