This was mentioned over in the transfer portal thread (page 6) but decided to open up a thread here as a possible UE recruit. Seems like he would be a great stopgap measure for the point guard situation. He played high school ball at Evansville Memorial (literally down the street from UE). He played the last four years at Bellarmine. Last year he averaged 16.6 ppg, 4.2 rbg and 5 assists on a team that won the ASUN championship (20-13, 11-5). He is 6-3 and started every game, averaging 34.4 minutes a game. Has anyone seen him play? Do you think he would be a good fix to fill the void left by Shamar leaving (or at least entering the portal)?

Bring him home. He looks like a perfect fit for us, especially with Givance leaving.

I'd be all for bringing him home. But he seemed to be very happy at Bellarmine, and with them still not eligible for post season next year, is as good a reason as any to leave for his "extra" year. He will probably be looking for a place to make that happen. Sadly, his hometown team is not in a position to make that happen.

I am going to assume that Bellarmine, if in a similar spot next year, will need to pee all over the NCAA's front porch to be denied the NIT again. So if that program is serious about that, they will hang onto every lever, cord, coat hanger and railing to improve their lot. If I am Bellarmine, my goal is to WIN the damned NIT. Or at worst, make it to MSG.

Question: I know that in the 4 year transitional period, teams new to D1 cannot play in the NCAA tournament. Is that also true for the NIT? Is it true for postseason play in general? (CIT, etc.)

Bellarmine knew they were not eligible for the NCAA tournament. But they thought they were eligible for the NIT. They found out a couple days after winning their conference tournament that they couldn't play in the NIT either. That was a huge disappointment because they were expecting to be in it. I read where they decided not to accept an invitation to the CBI. So unless the eligibility rules change, it appears that teams in the transition period are not eligible for either NCAA or NIT, but can play in the lower tier tourneys.

(CIT, etc.) The NCAA bought the NIT tournaments in 2005. The NCAA decided that the NIT would also adhere to the 4 year transitional period rule.

(CIT, etc.) My understanding is if a transitional team wins the regular season title they are eligible for NIT. Pretty sure that is correct

If they aren't eligible for the NCAA tournament then they shouldn't have been able to play in the conference tournament. Just my opinion

Really wish we could have got him to come to UE Word is he really wanted the oppty to play on the NCAA tourney....which Bellarmine cannot do and the situation at UE was unknown at the time of his transfer. Vermont (the favorite) and Stony Brook are pretty much a given to win the American East over the past decade-- so it was a great solution for him. I see he is averaging 16ppg this season.
