Amazing how depressing the recruiting section has been under TL.
The most lethargic introverted coach I’ve ever seen. The combination of TL being as exciting as watching paint dry and the fact he is now a lame duck coach has sucked the life out of the program. I sure hope he steps aside and does what is best for the program and doesn’t try to stick around for a fistful more dollars.
I think this recruiting section of the board is an example of how hopeless the program has become under this coach. I know McCarty was such a big mistake but don’t you remember the excitement around recruiting when he was taking over and that first year. We can have both integrity and energy and excitement, they aren’t mutually exclusive.

Agree 100%!! My daughter is going thru the recruiting process right now and talks/meets with coaches across all college levels. She discusses team culture, coaching philosophy, positional fit, how she could impact the team, etc. The only questions we the parents ask the coaching staff are:
"If my daughter were to be injured or ill, can she call you first?" "If she were to be injured and possibly unable to play again, would you honor her scholarship?" "What is your contract situation?" "Do you plan to be here the next 5 years?"
Answers to those tell us a lot about a coach, their relationship with the players, and commitment to the program....make or break when it comes to keeping a school on a list or moving on.

Patience grasshoppers...recruiting is short term. A great coaching hire is long term.

Must be another season of bad recruits, Sisley, Beauchamp, and Phillips looked terrible this year.....oh wait, the recruits looked good? Must be sheer luck, no way Todd Lickliter can do anything right

But obviously we still had a losing record.

To me, a recruit is less about what he's being told than what he sees. His reasons for coming to UE have to first be personal. That is often connected to his sense of brotherhood, or his belief in the coach as a mentor, tutor, role model, teacher ... whatever. Some players oddly are less concerned with winning games than they are with playing the sport competitively while they still can, knowing that at age 45, the knees are the first thing to go.
UE needs to recruit a team, not a group of individuals who might fit into the team. The newest offers will likely reflect that. If a kid doesn't like the school, his teammates, his dorm, his personal choices, he's going where he can get that. The W-L record isn't going to sway a top recruit. They all think they can lead a team to a title. It's how they were raised and it's what they all have accomplished. Nobody from a 2-23 high school team is going to be a D-1 player.

I can only hope the lack of offers by UE is a sign that Lickliter is on hold, and waiting to resign his position.

I hesitate to use Marty as a reference but look at his offers and how little time he has been in place, compared to Lick's offers and how long he has been in place. Yes, I agree, our number of offers and number of openings has concerned me before this season even started.
What are we doing? why are we waiting so long to do it? geez
I want to be excited about adding Belmont and Murray to our regular schedule, living in the Nashville area, I always go to these games. But these programs are going to own us for a while if we don't get out heads out of the sand.

Legend is 100% correct, you don't recruit to get players, you recruit a team. You look for a SG,a couple of Pgs,PF,SF and so forth.A good coach knows who can be a starter or a substitute.

Transfer portal is where it's all at now, cats. The days of picking up high school superstars is all but over. Those kids are stashed in the academies as sophs or juniors now and don't play any basketball that you and I can readily follow -- unless you follow junior college ball in Illinois. The high school kids we will see recruited are the ones like Frederking or Mcintire or Gage Bobe. The game changers are at Bosco or LaLumiere or one of the others. It just a different world and it happened overnight -- when the Portal became the go-to place for everything. The tampering, already in place, just got worse.
If you want these guys, you have to offer them something. We will see very few Blake Sisley's in the future.

Let’s get this straight. TL is not recruiting anyone. Thomas Jackson and Logan Baumann are the ones actually recruiting.
