Watch the video interview. It says a lot about a few players sentiments. There was some shots taken for sure. It's one thing to take it at the coach, but to slam our fans is out of bounds. The very ones who paid to watch Newton go 2 and 36 in two of his last regular MVC seasons. I find it amusing when a starter whines that he is tired of playing for a losing team.

Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I didn’t interpret anything he said as a shot at our fans? He said SIU has great fans that are crazy and yell at you. That doesn’t mean he thinks Evansville doesn’t have great fans? The winning comments were definitely a shot at our program, but Lick has definitely established a losing culture so can’t blame him for that.

He didn’t take a shot at the fans at all. He was just being honest imo and I don’t blame him for his choice. The program let him down. Wish him the best going forward.

I wondered too. I always thought Tristen was the better player of the two and his college career is showing it.

Walter was a very questionable talent evaluator in my opinion. He obviously hit a home run in Deandre off the bat, but whiffed badly on Tristen and Jake Laravia. A lot of his players went on to do absolutely nothing in college. It’d be interesting to see where we’d be if he had been able to keep it in his pants. I’m not sure we were on the upward trajectory we thought we were based on how a lot of how recruits have panned out.

Walter sucked. He didn't do much coaching, and his recruits were mercenaries who turned out to be little or no help to the program. Things would likely be better right now if he'd been able to stick around, but I don't think they'd be much better.
And if we're talking three years down the road, I'm taking Ragland all day every day.

Jawaun's brother, Tristen, who led UConn to the National Championship last year is being mentioned as not only a candidate for the Big East Player of the Year but was also among 30 players named to the Naismith Trophy Midseason Team as candidates for the National Player of the Year award. As previously mentioned, (by me and others), I sure wish we would have recruited him harder. I would have to think we would have had a real good shot at him. "...Newton's staggering averages of 15 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game on the league's top team underscore his pivotal role and make a strong case for his candidacy...." "...Newton also recorded the third triple-double of his career, the most of any active Division I player, in November. Newton was also named a top 10 candidate for the Basketball Hall of Fame’s Bob Cousy Award and was included on the midseason top 25 watch list for the Wooden Award..."

He would have been here only as long as McCarty was.
