What could they have been thinking to want to cancel Bike Race?!?! Honestly, it's stuff like this that really makes you question the intelligence. Seriously. With all that is happening right now with the University who is sitting around thinking - hmmm, I think now is a good time to cancel Bike Race??? Goodness

Purple Palooza, a street festival with all sorts of really exciting things. I recall as a dormie back in Hughes, our 39 bike team put together 4 or 5 of the nerdiest unkempt non-datable creatures in the whole of the city -- and those guys for one afternoon, were OUR DAMNED HEROES! They ran neck and neck with the Chi team, and though they didn't win, we were so proud of those guys.
There is no way a drone-fest administration that ever actually wandered out onto campus during a real event would not know this.

I remember not only the bike race but also a university supplied day at Audubon State Park with games and activities for the student body. Wasn't called anything in particular but it was a fun day and the beer flowed freely (not university approved).

I just read this CYA drivel from the "University Relations" department that evidently didn't have enough intellectual capability to recognize the tradition they claim they cherished so much when they trashed this event. Only when they found that their heads are in some mansion in the UK did they recognize what an outstanding "legacy" this event represents.
The long history of Bike Race and the lasting memories this tradition has brought many of our students and alumni over the years is an important legacy. As a result, we will have Bike Race this year and will meet with student volunteers over the next few days to finalize necessary plans. We recognize that University traditions are integral to the student and alumni experience, and we appreciate the dedication our students, staff, and alumni have to the student experience outside of the classroom.

They probably needed to save a the few dollars they spend on the bike race so they could do more marketing for the castle (or is it a manor) in Grantham.

The best marketing they could do now in reference to sports is to show highlights of the 82-31 loss to Loyola and claim that this would be avoidable in the future if we just had one or two more good players. Otherwise, I always find this sort of 'explanation' to be so 21st century. "Um, we did what we did because we wanted to know if you were bothered by it. Since this is our strategy, we will keep f***ing up until you stop paying attention. We are reasonably certain it's because the middle class doesn't pay enough taxes, so if you want to fix it, slap on a user fee."
