This morning, I received a response to my respectful letter to President P. It was a rather lengthy response. While I would like to think the length of the response was due to his being impressed with my eloquent prose, probably one of several canned responses depending on the nature of the letter, or he really respects me. š. Nonetheless a very good response from my perspective, one that gives me hope. He did say the state of the program was unacceptable, and everyone at UE expects more, and can and will do better. He thanked me for my years of support, and touted the academic achievements of the University as a whole and the athletic teams. That is true, but I donāt spend money to see them compete in literature and math. Bottom line, he does seem well aware of the state of menās basketball and the unhappiness of the fan base. Add this information to the article in the Courier this morning and I would be stunned if there are not major changes in the program very soon. Hang in there, help may be on the way.

I got a response this morning as well. I bet it was the exact same message. Though mine did have a couple of personal statements at the beginning. I bet the second paragraph and on was cut/paste.

Guys - I think I can 3rd this reply we got.
In paragraph #3 did he mention a GPA of 3.38 for UE student-athletes?
My closing paragraph / sentence read as follows: "We will do what is necessary to get better. I hope you will continue to support UE - and most importantly, our student athletes."

CP article: The UE men's basketball program is at a crossroads. Where does it go from here?Give Chad credit he tells it like it is in this article - which is the program is in bad shape and a change is needed in leadership - and asks where do we go from here. Here's a snippet which shows how bad things are:

Sounds like letters I get in response to writing my members of Congress and Senate. Iām sure Prez P had a lot of input in creating a community response to the problems at hand and he may have even added the personal touches mentioned.
The important thing is that he knows that the basketball program is at a crossroads as mentioned in the Courier article and that the community is concerned enough to address it with the UE Administration. Furthermore he knows that unless the Athletics are addressed the public outcry could bleed over to the Academic side and lead to an unmanageable nightmare.
Added to UEās internal problems are the advances being made by USI both athletically and academically which are a larger threat to UE. When I attended UE (EC) it was ātheā school in town and everyone knew it. Not so much today. Iām sure Prez P does not want to be at the helm if things really go south so Iām encouraged by his public response to our forum members letters.
A decision must be made quickly to sink or swim as the other 350+ D1 schools are all swimming toward next season. ISUr has already shown us the path to follow. Letās hope that major announcements will be made very soon.

First paragraph seemed to be more tailored to fit the writer. I have no problem with the canned response in the following paragraphs. Didnāt expect more. Iām just happy with the tone of the letter and thrilled with the Courier article this morning!

"He did say the state of the program was unacceptable, and everyone at UE expects more, and can and will do better." While I'm sure this was written by his team, that does "sound" like him and is on point.

I guess we can add this to the list of traditions Pres P has completely failed to understand the importance of What could possibly the issue with Bike Race? The email justifying it said they will be shifting to a āmore inclusiveā event called Purplepalooza. Even though Bike race is open to anyone to register in and attend? Yes it is usually only Greek life teams participating, but anyone could register a team if they wanted. Plenty of non Greeks attend the events and have a great time. It makes no sense and theyāre killing a great tradition so that they can try and get 21 year old kids to play yard games on the grassy knoll for a few hours on a Friday night. This school couldnāt be anymore out of touch with their student body if they tried!!

Looking around the website, it looks like there's a big staffing and time issue. Dean of Students is gone, only a handful of people left in student life and res life. Maybe it could come back in a year.

Maybe it could come back in a year. After 24 hours of alumni and student outrage, they have brought it back. Maybe if we get everyone this fired up about Lickliter we could see some changes lol
