I like the looks of Zaveion. He reminds me a little of Samari Curtis. Like Newton, he had some decent HS results, but the Link Prep detail is a little sketchy in detail, and a place like Link makes a point to distribute minutes so they can expose most of their players. After all, their rep is enhanced if several players earn D1 rides.
Agree that this is the type of player we’re likely to attract, but man, we are under the radar. When a kid isn’t listed on verbal commits, it means that there has been NO D1 interest. Meanwhile, if we are connecting with Indiana/Illinois/Kentucky HS coaches and working this network, there doesn’t seem to be much activity to show for it.
Meanwhile, we desperately need a Prim or Krikke type big.

Meanwhile, we desperately need a Prim or Krikke type big. For sure. We are not going to be where we want to be in this league until we do.

As clunky as he might have looked to some, I always liked the presence that Danius C. brought to the Aces. Get a 6-9 player who either LIKES to play inside, or can be schooled and built up to adjust. I realize that UE is unlikely to capture a HS kid with BiG skills. After all, K. Powell has given up a couple of years of being an integral part of a UE team, to riding the pine at Houston. I'm sure there is a lot to this that I don't know, but it just goes to show that almost every HS big wants to play P6 ball, at least, even if they don't play for 2 years.
Therefore, it may require us to find someone who is D1/D2 borderline, but has inside toughness to be a defensive specialist. Or, we look at the international market. I think both Iggy and Danius came from Latvia or Lithuania? Regardless, we cannot just recruit 2s and 3s if we expect to compete in the MVC. Teams like Davisdson, Belmont, even Bellarmine have a couple of 6-9 or 6-10 guys.

I would love having another of him on the Ace's team.

I was mad that Dainius had to spend his first two years at Vincennes I feel like he would have been a great player to have his first two years as well. He wasn’t big or super athletic but he just competed.

There’s a lot to like about Zaveion. He has a lot of quickness and really goes vertical. Two assets that we don’t get a lot of at UE. I also like that he’s left handed. Most basketball players rarely play against a southpaw and a good one messes up their defensive positioning.
I also like the fact that in his highlight videos his 3-point shots are beyond the college distance. He already has that muscle memory needed for the college game. Spending this year at prep school in Missouri should benefit him greatly in improving his guard play where he will be at UE. I see him as Newton’s replacement.
I wouldn’t focus too much on his high school scoring average. His team went 27-1 last year which means he had several quality players to spread the scoring. I don’t know why he doesn’t show a lot of offers but his going to Life Link had something to do with that. Recruiting has been really turned upside down with Covid and the liberal transfer rules changing the way things are done now.
Anyway, after seeing him play I’m glad he’s coming to UE.

According to max preps he graduated in 2021,so wonder what hes be doing this year Link Prep Academy. Their website lists him at 6'2" and 151 lbs. Woah .... sure hope this is an under the radar diamond in the rough kid. They don't have any kind of bio on the site or playing stats.

Trey Hall is a former Link Prep Academy player and was with Zaveion the whole pregame last Saturday against Valpo. Zaveion is on Link's national travel post grad team. Walker Timme, the younger brother of Drew Timme of Gonzaga, is also on this team. He is a 6'7", 233lbs stretch 4. As of Feb 22 he was still available.

The prep schools function like a cross between advanced AAU and JUCOS. Stats are hard to come by, and the Preps make their reputation by routing several players per year to college programs. Many Preps have 8-10 potential college players on their team, and all of them have come to be seen, hopefully by D1 programs. Some preps, like Link, have a couple of teams, almost like a varsity and jr. varsity. Thus, coaches distribute minutes pretty evenly. I’m sure that there are players who will get 35:min. per game, but most Prep Players get 15-25,:so that everyone gets a chance to “showcase their skills.”

If Timme is like Iyen compares with HIS brother, he’d be a project that I’d pass on. If he is a scrapper like Drew, he’d be a welcome addition to UE. A 6-7 to 6-9 rim protector/rebounder is not a wish, but a necessity.

Looking at current Aces, I have zero sense of Trey Hall. I do think that Phillips could turn into a Krikke-type player if he adds another 20 pounds of muscle and develops a little across-the-lane hook shot. Setting him up at the top of the circle to hand off passes is just dumb. The kid won't shoot from 22 feet and he shouldn't, really. But I know he's capable of playing in the mid-range. If the Aces are going to be a 3-ball team, they need shooters and somebody who can gather up long rebounds. Some of that is in place.

If TL was allowing Trey Hall to spend time with our newest recruit, he must be confident Trey Hall will be back and is doing what is being asked of him. This is better than the alternative.

Actually, there was a thread opened for Walker Timme on this board a year ago at this link. Not sure if the interest was mutual or not.
