This one is from Jan. 30, 1966, and the Terre Haute reporter was convinced that the "full house" that Coach Klueh was bringing to Roberts was superior to the Aces' twin threats of Humes and Watkins. This was when going to the game was all there was for stumped-up dormies like myself. So along with 11,416 other people, we all went to the game. 82-79. Humes with 34, Watkins, Williams, Pratt also in double figures. Rick Kingston had 2 free throws at :08 to seal the deal. Williams had 18 rebounds, which is triple what a current Ace gets on a good night. The Sycamores got 33 from Butch Wade, who had been out of action, and 26 from his Columbus buddy Jerry Newsom. Later on in Terrible Haute, the Aces won the back end of the set as well, 98-89. Thrust of that one was a 20-5 run by the Aces, mostly on the backs of the Vampire 5 that held the line over nearly 7 minutes and played a major role in the first half as well. The win guaranteed a 9-3 ICC record and a tie with Sicko State for the league title. Aces lost in the Regionals (3 times that year) to the Salukis, who lost 54-51 in the National title game to Ky. Wesleyan. Valpo and ISU both made the regionals, ISU losing to SIU. Scooby Doo. Phil Jackson of North Dakota was on the all-tournament team. He later went on coach some pro teams.
