There is a LOT of 5’10” - 6’2 white kids that average 20 to 30 points a game in high school, but get zero D1 interest. See Tyler Myers from day school, who might break the Evansville all time scoring record. But he’s short and white, so he obviously doesn’t garner any interest. i think Tyler Myers's problem is the schedule they play reeks of mediocrity and their team record currently of 1-8 would suggest that scoring at a record pace is not exactly an endorsement for getting a D-1 scholly. Otherwise, I don't think his race has much to do with it.

Hey, my opinion, but I figure he would fit well into the program coach L uses. He'd definitely fit in in Marty's system. Maybe the Mule will look at him? I would hate him to go to ISUb and drill threes on us twice a year.

Otherwise, I don't think his race has much to do with it. They have actually played a really solid schedule for a tiny 1A school, but choose to believe whatever nonsense runs through your brain. I guess whatever nonsense runs through my brain relates to why his race has anything to do with it.

I agree that race should have nothing to do with this conversation and will leave it at that.
So everything was good about the second post except the part about his skin color. So let's get back on topic discussing his talent, character, upside, skills, etc.

Otherwise, I don't think his race has much to do with it. They have actually played a really solid schedule for a tiny 1A school, but choose to believe whatever nonsense runs through your brain. The schedule Myers and Day Scool is playing against includes Hauser, Red Hill, ECS (with the talented Josiah Dunham, but another small school), Pekin Eastern, Springs Valley (Larry Bird isn't on the team anymore), Salem, etc. That is not exactly SIU, Belmont, Murray State, Ind. State, Valpo, UNI, etc., not to mention power conference teams. And as ATP mentioned, he's not leading his team to wins in these games either. Drew Cook and Northview is at least playing against a little higher competition, having played unbeaten 4A Terre Haute North and a few 3A reams. He's helped his team to a 5-3 record, including an OT loss to an 8-1 3A team, Sullivan, that was undefeated until losing by 2 points to that same TH North team last night. So Cook is having his success against much better competition. Whether either young man is talented enough to help a Div. I team and offer a valuable scholarship is a decision best left to Div. I coaches, who can determine whether they believe the kid can also score when guarded by bigger, stronger, quicker and older players.

To be fair, I think the true D-1 impact players get the bulk of their game from summer camps against recruited kids. The AAU programs are also a difference, although the outcomes at times produce players who are more into making a move on an opponent than helping sustain a 12-0 run in the heat of a tough game. But not everyone is getting the chance to play in these summer camps at the highest level. There is something to be said there about what the camps generate. You can end up with a roster full of guys who were coddled by a lifetime of coaches or you can end up with something else.
I could relate the Zach Richie story but it isn't useful.

The big problem is that the Valley has to start changing its approach across the board as this horrid Transfer Portal becomes more and more professional.
The talent drain has already begun and schools like Evansville are the easiest pickings. They aren't succeeding and players know they can go there, get a year's worth of school and pawn off their wares someplace else. If the Aces want to continue being a part of that ridiculous system, that will not change until the Valley, as a conference, steps up and joins other ox-pecker leagues and tells the NCAA that the college program's mission is not to help Baylor, the ACC and the SEC keep making billions, all the while letting somebody else do their recruiting of the 3-star guys they don't currently need to bother with.
I don't think UE is inherently to blame for all this, although the Aces and their leadership seem to currently operate under some kind of obtuse formula. I like the kids they've recruited, but since I hardly ever get to see them play, I have no idea -- is this really an 8-win PIG team or is there a reason to think they might be a .500 outfit that's a year away?
My advice as a fan: It's time the mid-majors took a stand on the Transfer Portal and told the "secretary" at HQ that this transparency thing is an inside joke. If the NCAA wants these fieldhouses packed to the brim with empty seats, they can keep lying to us about how they fixed the cheating problem.

Drew Cook, Northview: The junior guard had a big week with 23 points, three assists and three steals in a 73-46 win over Owen Valley, 32 points (on 6-for-12 shooting from the 3-point line), three rebounds and two steals in a 74-63 win over Indian Creek and 18 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 45-40 loss to Terre Haute North.
From Indy Star.....I think he'd fit in here great.

We need help in SO MANY AREAS. We need a BIG. That MUST be a priority. We need a couple of 6-6 ish swing men, who can slash OR hit the 3. We need a guy who can lead the league in floor burns and grab 9 rbs. per game. The problem with point guards is that the good prospects score 25 per game in HS, but you generally don’t need scoring from them in D1. What you need is floor management and leadership. I’m not saying that UE doesn’t need a point, but let’s not have his HS scoring be the only measuring stick. I’d rather have a kid who averages 13 pt., plays INTENSE D, and averages 5-6:assists(game.
