He committed tonight to Cumberland University. I guess he wasn’t really Division I material after all.

And I guess Walter truly didn't have an eye for talent. Or all the connections he claimed to have.

That's certainly the way it appears. His recruiting was no better than the last couple years of Simmons (Simmons early years of recruiting were much better than McCarty's).
Classic example of someone who was all talk and no substance.

In all fairness to Walter: Wichita State and Middle Tennessee State also offered scholarships to Demontay and he signed with Illinois State the year before. So he either fooled a lot of people or his grades were not good enough or both.
Walter hit some home runs in talent with people like DeAndre and Sam but missed on others like Peace, etc. However, all coaches are like that...I think Marty arguably evaluated talent better but never went for the “home run” player. (Which was partly because of his system and partly because he didn’t have the connections and name recognition that McCarty had...McCarty seemed like he went more for the high profile players with more talent but didn’t necessarily evaluate as well.
In other words, I think Marty got more out of his players but they tended (on average) to not be as talented. Of course, this is somewhat subjective and in the eye of the beholder and others might disagree.

I see where ISU/Lansing "lost" an IN All-Star from 3 yrs. back, D'Avian Washington (6'3" G TH South), who is going to Div II Central State (OH). They play in an all-black conference. Last year, Clayton Hughes transferred to USI. So there's certainly no 100 accuracy in Div I recruiting success, regardless who the media hypes.

Sam and DeAndre are the only two Walter recruits that stick out to me that got us talent wise over the hump at Kentucky; but as we all know they had their issues. Shamar and Jawuan have turned out pretty good as well; at least when Jawaun is on the court. All the rest have not really panned out to say the least. He’s definitely had a few real duds.

I've looked up some of Walter's recruits,Boyd,Dixon,Jurnette, and a couple others. And almost all of them are bench players.

The majority of the Walter recruits have not panned out. While I like Newton and Givance, they are very one dimensional. Shamar cannot guard anyone due to his size and he is a detriment on the defensive end. He needs to continue to work on his shot. If he could start making the mid and longer range jumpers he would really help more offensively. Newton is a good defender but a poor shooter. He can drive the basketball from time to time. Both are limited. Not yet sure about Alexander over the long term. The rest of Walter's boys hit the road or will be on the end of the bench. He set the program back a few years. Glad it's in the rearview mirror.

No Newton again tonight. Why not? What has he done to miss the first 3 games? If he is a problem, kick him off the team and move on. What gives? Where was the Ky player of the year tonight?
