Do any of you remember Ice skating at Roberts. I went there when I was a kid and it didn't happen very often but it was fun. I never was a good ice skater.

Yes, I believe they would keep the ice in place after the Ice Capades or Holiday on Ice until the next event was scheduled. This was before Swonder was built next door.
If you remember the original configuration of the stadium, the floor had a large space around the basketball court. This was designed to host hockey as well. A little before my time, but in the late 50's, Ft. Wayne and Indianapolis both played a few, regular season minor league games there, trying to generate interest for a team here.
A few people over the years attempted to start a team here. When the stadium was renovated in the early 90's, the digging of the floor eliminated the ability to hold a regulation hockey rink. Mayor McDonald was even quoted as saying he saw no benefit of minor league hockey..always the visionary.
If you remember, when arena football played there, the field was actually mis-marked to accommodate it.
