Someone posted this in one of the facebook groups. I don't recall this, but thought it was a neat picture. Very well done.

I have one myself. I always made a point of purchasing a media guide when they were available. The artist Jon Siau is as good as they come. The local paper should have hired him to assume the role of Larry Hill whose caricatures of Ace Purple owning the other team's mascot was a pure delight. Too late now, Evansville no longer has a truly local paper with a vested interest in Aces basketball.

Too late now, Evansville no longer has a truly local paper with a vested interest in Aces basketball. As much as Gannett has strangled local papers across the country, I think they do understand to a point the importance of keeping a beat writer covering local teams. While we no longer have two daily papers with sports editors competing with each other, we are fortunate in the coverage Anthony brings compared to many of our peers. Drake, for as good as they have been lately gets total crap compared to us. Anthony is the only reason I keep a subscription. Sadly, many Sundays, the actual paper ends up in the recycling bin still with the rubber band around it. Back to your point, the cartoonist have always been impactful. I do miss Larry Hill's drawings as well. Whether you agree politically with James MacCleoud or not, he has landed some powerful shots in recent times. I saved the one below. I remember the Sunday it ran. Up until that point, it seemed no one in the local media was questioning Marty or where the program was going. No one. When I saw this cartoon, and knowing MacCleoud was also a professor at UE, I knew things were finally turning. This ran on Sunday and Marty was canned the following Tuesday. Was this the final straw? Seems a little strange that such a decision would come from an editorial cartoon, but considering Spencer's bizarre track record, it's very possible.
