Looks like the MAC is no longer sponsoring men's soccer and we picked up 3 of their schools for soccer. Western Michigan won 2 games in the NCAA tourney last year.

We have 2 players named Nacho Diaz on the roster this year. The newbie is #22 and a xfr from Oregon State.

2-0 loss to #5 Louisville last night. Good effort by the team, especially with a few good scoring opportunities in the 2nd half. Louisville scored a goal with about 10 minutes remaining and another with 5sec left in the game on a penalty kick (very questionable call.)
I somewhat miss the days of a game at Black Beauty field with a UE team coached by Fred Schmalz. Saw some great games there.

I somewhat miss the days of a game at Black Beauty field with a UE team coached by Fred Schmalz. Saw some great games there. So we were tied with the #5 team in the country for 78 minutes. Not bad. Then they scored goals in the 78th minute and the 89th minute. I remember those Fred Schmalz coached teams, as well, from the mid-80s where we were ranked #1 in the country a couple of years (for most of the year). Went to all of the games at Black Beauty field and hung out with a lot of the guys and generally ate lunch and dinner with a lot of those guys at Harper Dining Hall. Remember doing a road trip to IU where we beat them 3-0. I believe that might have been our first win over them, but could be wrong. It was definitely a big deal as IU was pretty good.

From Wikipedia on the 1985 soccer team:
1985
Evansville first made the Final Four in 1985, under head coach Fred Schmalz. After going 21–1–2 in the regular season, the Purple Aces qualified for the NCAA tournament, a feat the program has accomplished twice up to this point. During the tournament, Evansville beat the likes of Indiana (3–0), and Penn State (1–0). It was UCLA who bested them in the Final Four, by a score of 3 to 1. The Bruins would eventually beat American to win the tournament.

We had about a 5 or 6 year stretch where we dominated IU, Notre Dame, St, Louis, and everyone in the midwest.
