I have no comment about the coaching, but we had a lot of energy in the first set. Up 20-17 we then had a lack of concentration and gave up 3 straight points on silly mistakes. All in all, it was a 8-1 UNI run to close out the set with a 25-21 win. From that point on we seemed to lose focus for the rest of the match.
We had no answer for UNI's #10 Holterhaus, who probably had her best match of the season with 18 kills and hitting over .700 -- which hints that our blocking skills are a weakness for our team.
Our lack of depth in hitters is also evident, as most of the good teams we play rely on a handful of hitters that rotate in and out. Feliciano and Cardona are usually on the court for the entire match, which puts a lot of pressure on them. I don't think you are going to consistently win matches by relying on your best hitter often having to attack from behind the 10ft line.
UNI really exposed a lot of our weaknesses and plays very fluid, where at times we seemed to struggle in a few basic skills of the game.

I thought it was an all around good team win. Cardona's 1384 career kills puts her at #6 on the UE list. She will likely end up the season at #3.
I would like to see her hitting % when she is on the frontline vs the backline and attacking behind the 10ft line. My theory is they should try to set the MB's more often when Cardona is on the backline. I thought our MB's, Springer and Steele, had some good kills tonight when attacking with a decent set.

The VB team won a super close five set match against UIC. Every set was decided by 2-4 points with the Aces winning the fifth set 36-34.

It was Giula's 22nd birthday today! Nice way to celebrate.
It was crazy being there and it was the longest match in NCAA history at 3hr44mins. Looking at the score, keep in mind that a 5th set is usually only to 15pts, so there was not a 2pt differential till the final at 36-34 -- We also just about broke the record for most points scored in a 5-set match (25pt scoring system era) --- the record is 132pts and we had 131pts.
The length of the match had a lot to do with the coaches challenging calls and going to video replays -- which were many and sometimes lengthy. Some complained about the referees, but truthfully, it is a tough job, especially in a 3+ hour match.
The big test for Fernando is to get these ladies ready for the match against Valpo after an emotional win.

Great win for the Aces last night! Hopefully, the team will continue to improve and build consistency. Will be a tough one coming back tonight, but I am confident the team will be ready.

Lost to Valpo 3-1 after taking the first set.
After the 2nd set we were flat for the rest of the match. We should of subbed in some more players as Feliciano and Cardona's play reflected that they were tired. I was a little surprised that coach didn't use more players, as it was evident the players were gassed.
Valpo's fans are interesting.

I feel like yesterday's result would've been different with a rested squad. Valpo is not that much better than us.

Nice award and recognition well deserved. She leads the nation in "Total Kills, Points per set, and Kills per set"
Kora Ruff is 20th in the nation in "Assist per set" and 21st in "Total Assists" -- She is pretty impressive in that a good percentage of her sets go to the 10ft line when Cardona is in the back line rotation.
I believe if we gave our MBs more opportunity for Kills, then Kora's assist numbers would go up. Madisyn Steele and Brooke Springer have the capability, it is just up to the coaches to use them more often and give some balance to our offense. --- just an opinion on my limited knowledge of VB, but noticing that maybe Cardona's efficiency drops as she gets tired from overuse.
