Correct. And while expectations are high for this season, with only 2 seniors the Aces will have a really strong group of core players for potentially 2 years.

Maybe we can get AustinAce to post our opponents Massey Volleyball rankings from the end of last year...similar to the 7/10/22 post. Preseason ratings are always questionable: masseyratings.com/cvol/ncaa-d1/ratingsImagine that you wanted me to put a rating by every team that we play but if you sort the MVC teams you can see that we are listed as the sixth best MVC team. If time permits I will see what I can do.

thanks for sharing - will be interesting to track this as the season gets started.
A couple of things to keep in mind:
We do not have a full squad yet - as Ainoah is with the Puerto Rico U19 National Team in Croatia. Additionally, we had a few players who were restricted by their Visa's as to when they could report to campus. Lastly, Fernando is with the PR National Team preparing for the PanAmericana Cup. While this is a little difficult, the trade-off of his international playing and coaching experience is a big plus for our program and especially in recruiting.
Overall, I like our non-conference schedule as it gives us games we can be competitive in while giving the players time to gel as a team. Last year, our schedule was pretty challenging, and then when we were hit with some injuries it was a tough road.

Puerto Rico U19 team lost their opening game in pool play to the Dominican Republic (3 sets to 1). Ainoah looked good. She is not only skilled, but is a leader on the team. She is athletic and plays with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. She will be another great addition for the Aces!

FYI for those interested....
Puerto Rico U19 team defeated Germany in 3 sets this morning at the World Cup. PR finished 1-3 in pool play, but Ainoah looked very good in all 4 games.
The PR senior national team - featuring Alondra Vazquez, and of course, Fernando as coach - will be playing their first game in the PanAmerican Cup tonight against Chile.
As previously discussed on the board, the program has high expectations for this season and a very bright future. We have 2+ years of eligibility left with the following players (not a complete list):
Melanie Feliciano Blakely Freeman Giulia Cardona Madisyn Steele Maddie Hawkins Kora Ruff Ainoah Cruz Chloe Cline Lu Gazda Kuhn
Based on how she looked in the spring, I expect that Chloe will have a big role and be a very strong player for us in the middle. And from what I have seen and heard, I certainly believe Lu and Ainoah will contribute this year.
We have depth at positions and a nice balance. Again, this is not a complete list, but certainly a great core of talented players to compete in the MVC the next 2 seasons. And I would certainly expect there to be others who will be solid contributors to the team.

Below are the December 2022 Massey Ratings for women's volleyball at the end of last year for the teams on our schedule. * Denotes teams in the SEMO Invitational (besides UE). + Denotes teams in the Samford Invite (besides UE). - Denotes teams in the DePaul Invitational (besides UE). Note: The previous year's record does not guarantee similar results the year after but can be used as an indicator of how tough the team might be the following year. Outside of the Tennessee game, this looks to be a much easier non-conference schedule than last year. I think our record from last year is very misleading due to the slow start last year (injuries and head coach not with the team as he was coaching the Puerto Rico national team). I would expect the preseason MVC predictions to be announced this week. Team | Conference | Record | Rating | SOS | Tennessee | SEC | 17-14 | 45 | 39 | Northern Iowa | MVC | 27-8 | 52 | 86 | Drake | MVC | 30-8 | 62 | 138 | Illinois Chicago | MVC | 22-10 | 87 | 132 | Valparaiso | MVC | 22-11 | 128 | 191 | Central Michigan* | Mid-American
| 20-12 | 129 | 156 | Northern Illinois- | Mid-American | 17-11 | 146 | 185 | DePaul- | Big East | 10-20 | 150 | 89 | Samford+ | Southern | 19-13 | 158 | 204 | Illinois State | MVC | 12-17 | 159 | 130 | Evansville | MVC | 16-19 | 174 | 168 | Southern Illinois | MVC | 18-13 | 188 | 236 | SEMO* | OVC | 17-16 | 209 | 261 | Bradley | MVC | 10-21 | 211 | 152 | Chicago State
| Western Athletic
| 8-15 | 212 | 153 | Murray State

VB lost the first match of the season to SEMO - swept in 3 sets Bummer. On the bright side the match appears to be closer than the 0-3 score indicates as every set was decided by two points. I would expect Central Michigan to be a better team than SEMO based on their record and rating from last year. So our Aces better bring their A game today or they will be 0-2. Even #1 Texas lost to an unranked Long Beach State team yesterday. So you just never know especially this early in the season.

Ok, off to a better start today, as we took the first set against CMU 25-17 -- let's keep it going! I have a feeling this could be a 5 set match.
UPDATE: Second set lost, 26-24 -- cannot seem to win the close ones, although we did well to come from being down 18-12 at one point.
Fernando is not with the team due to his PR team commitment -- having him there yesterday could of been a difference maker in the close loss to SEMO.
Note--did not see Chloe Cline listed in the box score.

Thanks 65PointGame for the update. SEMO beat us and Central Michigan yesterday. CMU did go four sets with SEMO and it was fairly close but not two point games in general; so I definitely see this match with CMU being really close. CMU did lose in four sets to Southern Illinois yesterday as well. For convenience here is the live game stats: stats.statbroadcast.com/mobile/?id=480426&vislive=evanIt appears that we are up 16-10 in the third set. (I say appear because one place shows us up 16-10 and the another place shows that CMU is up 16-10 on the same stat page.) Update: Guessing we were down 16-10 as the logos are backwards.
