As usual, we have consulted the experts who gather public opinion, digest it and belch it back out for the fans to ponder and pontificate. This one is no different. So the 50,000 or so people who contribute their thoughts on PAP are being asked to weigh in on this.
Football.

Seriously, I hope we can generate some buzz. At least if the conversation begins, somebody might actually ask if this is a good deal.

By this time next month UE's position on football will have been revealed.

I would love seeing football come back, but I believe there are other areas that could use the money long before football is stared back up.

I would love seeing football come back, but I believe there are other areas that could use the money long before football is stared back up. That would be true if they are robbing from one to promote something that won't generate much revenue at first. They have to come up with a way of proving or strongly suggesting that football is good for the university. We all believe it does, which would seem to be enough of a reason to restore it (or not kill it in the first place). We don't get to look at the books, though. The argument that football makes other sports better is somewhat lame. If you want a good basketball team, do that. Don't depend on football. If football helps recruiting for other programs, not all of them sports, then adding it makes sense. How do we prove that? Apples need to be compared to other apples, and that's hard to do.

We do agree in most of this. It should not have been ended to begin with. That was 55-70 additional students that did not receive scholarships and actually paid most of their way through school. And that helps everybody. Unfortunately, to restart the program is a lot more expensive than just keeping it going. But hopefully one day, it will be back.

Love smalltime college football. You park your car, take a short walk to the ticket booth, get your $5 ticket, another short walk to your seat, and the game starts in 10 minutes. Then no traffic jams after the game. And no media timeouts! Great way to spend a fall afternoon! Would be great if it could come back.

I suppose the first job would be to establish a real playing field.

The first step was yesterday. The next step is to find trustees and board members that are inclined to agree that increasing sports and more specifically football increases student enrollment and campus activities.

If Evansville restarted football and joined the Pioneer League I would feel more comfortable with ISU moving down to the Pioneer League too. At that point there would be 4 Indiana schools (including ourselves) plus Dayton and Morehead State which are pretty close. Then there's Drake who is also a MVC member.
