If you're going to play football why limit the players to 178 lbs. Equipment, facilities, field cost the same for players no matter their size.

I was wondering how UE fans think about UE getting sprint football at UE I have polled 34,938 UE fans and only one of them thinks that would be a good idea. Why is that better than just a regular football program?

Why is that better than just a regular football program? Sprint football may be cheaper than regular football. Schools like Bellarmine and Oakland City are starting up sprint football. If UE fans want football back at UE then sprint football may be the sport.

If that is what they have, I suspect it will gather a following. I don't see how it's cheaper. If it's cheaper, it's not as good.

I just scanned the rules for sprint football and one setup asserted that NCAA rules will be in effect, rosters adjusted to max out at 65, one head coach, 7 assistants, 4 15-minute quarters -- sounds all pretty normal to me.
The part about weighing in every game to 81 KG and 5 pct. body fat -- seemed like a bit of a reach. Most 170-pound linebackers who have 5 pct. body fat can smack your a** pretty hard. I can't see how this is cheaper, unless a uniform for 180 guy costs a lot less than one for a 280 guy.
Sell me on this game, please. If all you have is "cheaper," having no team at all is a lot cheaper than that. The scholarship issue is a non-starter. A good football player can play anywhere. A bad one should not be rewarded with any sort of university athletics support.
There is still no field for them to play on. I'd vote for arena football ahead of this. The schools in the "conference" do include Midway and SMOTW.
But yeah, I also like watching the CFL here and there because it has some freaky rules. Sprint doesn't do that, so far as I can tell. It just limits itself to guys who probably would be playing in the frat flag league.

What about a 7 on 7 football league. Max the roster out at 21 players, non scholarship, field size is smaller,1 head coach,3 assistants, cheap football for small schools.

Pardon my ignorance but I have never heard of sprint football.

I think 70 years ago, sprint football was just regular football with funnier helmets.

I can see a sneak ploy here, though. If the UE administration approved a sprint football team in that Midwest league, two years and the AD could say, "hell, we have a team and a field, why not just get some bigger guys and join the Pioneer?"

I was wondering how UE fans think about UE getting sprint football at UE At first I thought you were asking our reaction to UE’s decision to field a sprint football team. But I now get that you are asking what we think of the idea. It sounds like the reason schools have these teams is that it is cheaper than regular football. I am not talking about the field and unis but especially travel, staff, investment required to be competitive, less pressure, no big NIL concerns, etc. It’s a smaller-time operation. I’d much rather be in the Pioneer League but this would (probably) be better than nothing and would be a boost for enrollment and tuition so that it would likely bring in more $ than it cost, at least after start up costs. I don’t totally dislike the idea as I would have been eligible back in the day as a 5’9” 140 pound wide receiver in intramurals. I’m sure this started as an option for guys who weren’t big enough for the varsity squad.

Bingo, Here is a article from Athletic Business on March 26, 2012 by Paul Steinbach "Sprint football is witnessing a growth spurt". The article talks about Franklin Pierce and Mansfield starting a sprint football team. Here is part of the article on Mansfield. "When Mansfield turned to sprint football as a economical and expeditious alternative to its Division II program, which was dismantled after the 2006 season. Steve McCloskey, director of athletic operations, at Mansfield, recalls a meeting with then President Maravene Loeschke, who was visibly distraught after rejecting the 5 year fundraising proposal presented to her by a room full of hulking former Mountaineer lineman at the school. I just said. What if I were to tell you that there is a football league out there that would allow us to start playing football within a year that cost 80% less than Division II football that's better for gender equity and that would have us playing Princeton for homecoming?. She took her head out of her hands and looked at me and said, We can play Princeton ? Even those football players could sense that was it, that was that one thing that met everything she said that had to be met. It had to be affordable and there had to be the opportunity to do it well". In 2019 Franklin Pierce transitioned from sprint football to D2 regular football. With the Midwest Sprint Football League starting up in 2022 this is a perfect time for UE to consider sprint football with plans to transition to regular football in the Pioneer League

It's not like a lot of women are coming out for the team. If they want co-ed football, then at least do it in the dark. But I do honestly need somebody to throw some facts in there with the "80 pct. less". If this is non-scholly football, they still need a field.
