Looks like UNI has lost Austin Phyfe for the foreseeable future, if not season. This is certainly a big lost for UNI. Austin has definitely had his health challenges during his college career ranging from vasovagal syncope (described as a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure leading to fainting, often in reaction to a stressful trigger), COVID and long COVID to the current issue (blood clots in his lungs). Some things, like health and family are more important than basketball (obviously). Sounds like he has a great attitude and could potentially return by conference play. I wish him the best and am rooting for him and a full recovery. www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/college/northern-iowa/uni-panthers/2022/10/17/uni-basketball-austin-phyfe-final-season-in-doubt-iowa-panthers/69569670007/“…After undergoing emergency surgery in June for blood clots in his lungs, Phyfe remains on blood thinners and has not been cleared for full basketball activities as a result. He continues to improve health-wise since the operation…suiting up again may not be feasible…Although a return is possible in roughly one to three months…” BCPanther on their message board describes their season chances like this with some picking them as high as fourth place): “…I don't think that changes our floor at all but it probably limits the ceiling...”

Not only to return to the floor but his health for the future.

Honestly if Phyfe is smart, he will end his basketball career and get well. He is a prime candidate for a stroke.
